my undergrad gpa was a 2.7, postbacc gpa is a 3.2 (32 credits). I will be taking 12 credits in the fall all sciences for my informal postbacc. My question is, should I apply to a formal postbacc now with a 3.2 postbacc gpa or should I wait until after the fall semester when my postbacc gpa can potentially be a 3.4? Thanks!

You only pulled a 3.2 in an informal post-bac?

Shouldn't this be a big red flag?

before I enter a formal postbacc I plan to take a total of 60 credits. I've completed around 30. Before I enter a formal postbacc I should have around a 3.5 postbacc gpa.

A 3.2 GPA is a mix of As and Bs, right? (granted, probably more Bs than As.) But what's wrong with that!? I am really beginning to resent how picky the admissions process can be.

When the average medical school matriculant has about a 3.6 or 3.7, getting a 3.2 in a second chance postbacc does not look good at all - especially if you cGPA is already under 3. You have to ask yourself why would a medical school take a chance on you when there are thousands of people with 3.6+ who get rejected?

Thank you all for your responses so far. I am not oblivious to the situation, I wouldn't dare apply to medical school now. I am trying to get into a formal postbacc. I am still going to take another 30 credits or so in the informal.

But, before you start a formal postbacc you need to figure out why you got a 3.2 in your informal postbacc. You should have gotten a 3.8-4.0. Even if you get into a formal postbacc and perform that poorly again, you will surely make your situation worse...

Name another extremely influential, stable, respected and well-paid job that anybody can go into and which most parents would be very, very happy to see their children pursue. It's not discrimination, it's competition.

Did you know 70,000 people per year take the MCAT? And then about 45,000 apply? And then only about 20,000 get into med school? It's a buyer's market and med schools are under no pressure to be less selective or less demanding.

Also, coming from a 3.09 overall cumulative GPA, and having just finished the EVMS SMP, I can verify that the difficulty of the work justifies the focus on academic prowess. I have never worked this hard in my life, and I come from a field where 80 hour weeks were normal for the first career decade.

Get A's, people. Keep it simple and get A's.

Agreed with Midlife.

At the end of the day, 3.2 isnt cutting it. Especially in a grade-repair situation.
