Hey guys,

I am a pre-med at a small liberal arts school. Over this break, I have decided to try to figure out where I want to go to medical school and in the process I thought it would be a good idea to make a large document that I can present to other students with information about medical schools. Right now, I am going through by region using AAMC's MSAR and gathering up what I think is important data regarding the schools. I am looking to see feedback from you guys to see what else I might want to include. Here is a sample of one of the schools.

Class Size:
Distance:
Total Cost of Attendance:
Prerequisites:
Median GPA:
Median MCAT:
Application fee:
Use of AMCAS:
Application Data: (applications/interviewed/matriculated)
Combined MD/PHD:

Let me know what else you would be looking for as a pre-med student.

Thanks,

NN

Why do you need to provide a document that re-caps the MSAR to your science department? What are you trying to accomplish? 😕

The better question is, what are you interested in in medical school? I personally had location as my first concern (non-trad with a house, family, etc.). Cost was a concern, hospitals available for rotations, match data, curriculum (have heard about Problem Based Learning, and based on most accounts I want nothing to do with it).

If you know what you are interested in you can put together a list of medical schools that you think would be the best fit. Not sure what value the data would have for your school, though.

It's not for my school really, its for other pre-meds at my school. I am the head of an organization on campus and want to help out my fellow students by making the list.

Please keep copyright in mind.

That thought did cross my mind. Do you think what I am doing is a potential problem? I'm basically mapping out potential medical schools for myself and then sharing it with a few other pre-meds who are in the same club as me? Is this a problem?

why cant u just internalize this **** and just decide without making this large ass document for ****s sake? cut out the middle man and just do it. then do it again.

What's the purpose of this? It seems like you're essentially copying the data from the MSAR for a small list of schools you're interested in.

The MSAR is cheap enough. I would just recommend to all of your fellow pre-meds to purchase that. A $25 purchase is nothing in the big scheme of the application process.

good call. I'll recommend it to the others

IIRC, SDN was contacted by the AAMC for having data posted from the MSAR. So, in that sense, it could be a problem. Based upon previous Supreme Court cases dealing with similar cases (ex, phone books), though, it would likely not hold up in court if someone wanted to take it that far.

On that note, if they have the extra $25, just buying the MSAR would be easier for them.

damn, that is nuts. I removed the information from the original post and just left the categories that I am interested in. I will advise my other pre-meds to purchase the MSAR and will show them how.
