Need Help!!Am I ready for Med School?

Seems like waiting a year would be best for both your chances and your stress level.

If you're interested in a minor and can afford college, definitely stay for a fourth year. Otherwise, work/volunteer in a lab or clinic. Your gpa is great so I think that would be a better use of your time than a post bacc

Yes. A post bacc would be a waste of your time and money. Wait until next year to apply because you only want to have to apply once.

have you been doing practice tests to get an idea of how well you'd do? if you have been scoring the way you want, and have already scheduled the test, go ahead and take it but put off applying until next year, after you've been able to meet more people to get letters from.

Agreed. This isn't a race; you apply when all your ducks are in a row and not before. If that means spending a year doing research or earning money or enhancing your ECs, then so be it. Many people are going to be a couple of years out of college in med school so you won't stand out by doing this. Just find something interesting to do during the off year. As mentioned, your GPA is fine so postbac probably doesn't make sense -- you only do postbac if (1) you don't have the sciences yet, or (2) you need to enhance your GPA, BCPM or otherwise prove you have an aptitude for sciences that you didn't yet show in undergrad. You don't do it to kill a year- It won't make you any more competitive for this purpose.

Thanks everyone for your inputs and I do plan to apply next year! Need to get all my things set in this coming year. And Yea when I posted this I wan't entirely sure what a Post bacc. was but I researched it and yea it would be a waste of time. And I'm right now looking for many other ECs to do for a year.

Why rush? You said yourself you have only been in college two years so I'm assuming you transferred in with credits. Why not just take the extra year to beef up your app!

I know studying abroad can be expensive, but if you have the means to do it, it would be a great opportunity. Sometimes it is tougher for science majors to go abroad (for some reason, organic chem and bio don't seemed to be offered as much in Europe/etc. as foreign languages and French literature 😉), but it seems like you have the majority of your pre-med reqs and bio major requirements completed. You might be able to add a minor, pick up a language, or work on a service project in another country — all things that could be useful on your applications. Best of luck!

Could not agree more.

Ha, I hope that's not a bad thing! Apparently we are both very big fans of Sue Sylvester.

Nope, actually a screen shot from an episode I was watching a couple weeks ago. Good point though; I'll change to avoid confusion. Thanks for the heads up!

Looking back to my college career, if I had an extra year to spare, I would totally do something that I can't do once I start med school.
Something like Americorps. I know I still had the chance to do it but I just wanted to graduate with all my other friends and blah blah blah.

I think this is your opportunity to do something.
