I apologize if I am double posting here and in "what are my chances" (I can't delete the other one)

I just got back my MCAT score (second time I took it) and unfortunately it's not competitive enough for US Allopathic Schools, but I did want to take a shot at some Osteopathic places.

I have a 3.73 cumulative GPA and about a 3.8 BCPM (Amcas calculated). My MCAT was a 26R split as 6V🙁, 8P, 12B. I honestly do not wish to take that exam again...

I have shadowed an MD (Pulmonologist), and volunteered plenty of hours at a the hospital. I have taught for the 7 years (at a religious institution) and taught Organic Chemistry at college for the past year and half. I am also a registered Pharmacy Technician.

I have applied via AACOMAS to UMDNJ-SOM, CCOM, NYCOM, PCOM, and TUOROCOM. (I'm a NJ resident)

My question to you guys would be whether it's worth it to go through with the DO process, or apply to an MD school offshore (SGU/Ross)

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely apply DO. The great GPA will help, and your composite MCAT is near the DO matriculant average. The verbal is low, but I think you have a shot anyway. Apply as soon as you can, all you can do is apply and see what happens.

Good luck!

I would absolutely apply DO. Your MCAT is average to slightly above for most DO schools, and your GPA is stellar. Both my MCAT and gpa were far below yours. I'd say to definitely consider giving your state MD schools a shot, too...though I can't recall if there are any in NJ. You have excellent ECs, as well. I am confident you can clench a handful of interviews at the DO schools--but start the secondaries you've already received ASAP, it's getting late.

You are pretty good for DO! I know many people who have been accepted DO with lower stats, but they had lots of DO shadowing experience. I wouldn't do offshore. I think taking the MCAT again would be easier that trying to find a good residency with a caribbean degree. How much did you practice VR? You really need to do at least a passage a day for 3 months to get a good verbal score. Your P and B are pretty good.

Anyway, finish AACOMAS ASAP and then find a DO to shadow! Many DO schools require a DO letter so make sure you didnt apply to any of those. Read up on the osteopathic philosophy, because being unknowledgeable about it can kill your shot.
