I'll keep it simple...
IL resident White M 3.58 cPG 3.2 sGPA 506 MCAT.
Thousands and thousands of hours as a medical scribe, both emergency medicine and primary, preventative, care. hundreds of hours in medical volunteer. Both science and medical research internships, leadership experience (student government and AMSA)
this is my second application cycle and have no interview invites thus far. Applied to 6 MD and 25 DO schools (~30 DO last year, no luck w/ one interview ***HAD 496 MCAT at the time). Applied very first day for secondaries with every school received (prewrote most of them).

Trying to think proactively, any suggestions?

This is what I am devoted to. My application is not perfect, I know that and beat myself up about my app everyday, while natural brainiacs live perfect lives and get a 515+ on the MCAT. This is Cringe to say, but for the past few years, its been this, my clinical work, and going to the gym that’s it!! I am not some antisocial dude, don't get me wrong. But I have given up everything over the past couple of years and still can't be successful! Growing up they told us you could be anything you want in life. It seems like its like that for everyone else, except for me. Its not that I am dying to go to medical School, but rather, I know I am READY to be successful and I just can't seem to get a chance. I have worked with dozens of physicians, and it sucks going into work and trying to be passionate about the medicine when a background annoyance reminds you that "Hey, you can't even get there, so why learn about it?".

GPA is what it is, Im two years post grad and would prefer not to spend thousands of dollars and a few years to hope for a chance to med school with an SMP. I can only do so well on the MCAT with my reading speed (Dyslexia is not fun).

Completely open to practicing medicine anywhere in the world (where they speak English), UK, Ireland, etc. As long is I can live a stable life and make a difference in the peoples lives around me. Thats all I want guys, I don't care how much I make or the kinds of things I have. Suggestions?

thanks, Alex

School list? Did you apply broadly to both MD and DO schools?

You’re still young. Don’t give up on a dream or lose hope due to temporary setbacks.

Keep your chin up.

I'm surprised that you didn't get more love from DO schools.

Suggest doing a DIY postbac or an SMP.

Some therapy will be helpful as well. This is NOT giving medical advice.

Also, be prepared to hear what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

Almost every DO school, every IL school, and MCW in WI (I went to college in Milwaukee)

You got any advice outside of the US. I looked into SMP and most of them are a gamble it seems (according to current students) and "not worth it".

Although this site is like 90% negative bias so not sure haha

Unfortunately, your sGPA is lethal for MD, even your U ILL.

While last cycle was very competitive for both MD and DO, your rejection from UIW suggests that you need to a8lso work on interview skills.
Hello Goro

You seem like you know this site well, thank you for the comment! I thought I killed my interview, very well informed with medical aspects and interpersonal skills, but obviously I messed up somewhere! I figured it was my 496 MCAT at the time that killed me. Definitely something I need to work on is interview I guess, but maybe if I can actually get there ya know?

Any other advice besides post-bac? It seems like just as much of a gamble? Plus it always made me feel crappy knowing that I am going to school to learn about something, when in reality all I care about is what's a head not what I am learning in the moment 🙂

As of right now your GPA puts you in a very high-risk Zone for going to a Caribbean school and then getting dismissed.

This is why the people on this site are so biased against Caribbean schools.

As such I cannot recommend this route. Ditto for any school elsewhere outside the United States. Even if you make it through, the odds of you getting the residency spot are much greater.

Look up my post on re- invention for pre-meds.

You are competitive for the majority of DO schools with your new MCAT of 506 and I suggest all these:
CCOM
DMU-COM
KCU-COM
ATSU (both schools)
AZCOM
TUNCOM
MU-COM
UIWSOM
WCU-COM
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT (both schools)
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
CUSOM
VCOM (all schools)
LECOM (all schools)
PCOM (all schools)
