Hey guys so I took the MCAT in July 2013 and got a 26 (9/8/9). I retook it in September and I thought I did better but I got a 25 (9/8/8). Is it bad that I got a lower score the second time? I have a 3.42 cgpa and a 3.3 sgpa. Should I still finish out this cycle or just apply to the carribean? I'm really upset now because there are no more dates to retake it unless I want to take the new MCAT in January. What do you guys think?

step 1) don't apply to caribbean
step 2) anything as long as it isn't step 1

It certainly doesn't help your application that you got a point lower. Most tests can fluctuate a point or two in either direction depending on the environment, stress, etc. So now an ADCOM would just assume that your true score is around a 25 or 26 since the difference could have been just a few questions.

What were you scoring on full length practice tests the second time?

Finish out the cycle. You definitely aren't out of the picture based on your MCAT/GPA.

If you have applied broadly and appropriately, you should get at least a few II depending on the rest of your app.

Dont go caribbean. You scored 1 point lower so its not a big deal. I have seen people with those scores and gpa get interviews so you can go ahead and apply. Did you arleady submit primary apps? because this is late int he cycle to get your application verfied. If you havent sent primary apps, then wait until next cycle to apply. If you have secondaries then go ahead and finsih this cycle.

I was scoring around a 28. I'm hoping that since it's just a one point difference ADCOMs might just attribute it to stress or just a bad day or something. I'm already taking a year off and I really don't want to take another year off which is why im thinking about the carribeans.

@PlaqueBuster Yes I have already submitted my primaries, working on turning around secondaries as we speak but when I saw my new score my heart just dropped a bit. I applied to literally every DO school so I'm hoping im not too late and that I get some love.

Would you rather take another year off and end up in a DO school that leads to a residency or take 2+ years off after going to the Caribbean because nobody in the states will bring you in for a residency?

Applying to EVERY DO school would be a waste of money. Apply to schools where your scores are similar to what they report as their average, what they deem competitive, etc. You have to be realistic otherwise you are literally just throwing away money.

You should get some love if you have good EC's and LOR. Just finish thr process and wait. Lecom-B is a good school. I have my interview there in november. No essays. Submit that asap. With your stats you should hear back from it

Just sent my secondaries to Touro Nevada, Marian, and LECOM-B. Would you guys advise retaking the test in January or is a third time not going to look good?

From what I have heard, you cannot take the test in January. I think the earliest next date is in April, 2015. Someone posted it in a different thread. See if you can find it on aamc mcat website.

the 2015 version is not available in january of 2015. it's kind of whacky, but that's how it is.

It doesn't help. A Bio8 score doesn't fill me with confidence.

You should apply broadly, targeting the newest schools. However, I can't recommend LUCOM. Dig up the table @user3 kindly posted of median scores at DO schools are aim for those schools closest to your own numbers. You can do better than Carb diploma mills. And definitely do NOT retake the MCAT...I believe you've hit your ceiling.

Also I tihnk you should know if you take the mcat in january you will need to let aacomas know about that. That will stop schools from reviewing your application until February which really puts you at a disdvantage for this cycle. If you want to apply for next cycle then you need to find out if the old scores are accepted. I also agree with Goro that a 28 is not enough of an increase from 26. You really need 30+ to stand out from a 26.

Thanks guys. Do you guys think I'm better off applying to Post Bacc programs with linkage agreements?

Also @Goro why do you not recommend LUCOM?

Just found it! thanks @user3

there's an entire thread on lucom but sdn generally does not like it. look it up but basically its a Christian school that enforces religious code of conduct and undermines some science principles to put it simply.
