Hi,
I am a bit new to this forum, and I really liked this concept of communication. I want to ask you all a general question. Presently I am in my second year of college and have still not chosen my major. I want to have a good opportunity for acceptance into a dental school, and was thinking of majoring in Psychology, because I believe dental schools dont really care about what you major in. Would Psychology be a good major for acceptance to dental school. I hear all these things that, most students get a Biology degree when applying, I a bio degree preferred by dental schools. I am talking about all dental schools in general. Would a Psychology degree be weighed equally with a science degree? I would appreciate assistance.
Thank you

Doesn't matter what major you pursue, as long as you take the prereqs for whatever schools you're applying to. Some people will say the extra exposure of a biology degree will help you get off to a running start in dental school, others will tell you a non-bio degree will make you a more rounded candidate and possibly offer education dental school will largely overlook (business, in particular, springs immediately to mind).

Personally, I see no reason to pursue a biology degree if you'd rather go for something else; but, if you can't even muster the energy to at least minor in biology, I think you should take a serious look at whether dentistry (or any other medical field) is something you want to spend the rest of your life doing. Good luck deciding.

i agree with the above.. but i want to add on is the fact that you should pursue a major that you enjoy, b/c having a major that you hate will drive you nuts through out college. As a side note, you should still take higher courses in biology or chemistry such as biochemistry, neurology, physiology, cell biology...

I am a business major and haven't heard anything negative about it on any of my interviews. In fact, it's made for some interesting conversations with the interviewer. Point... just major in something you enjoy and can do REALLY well in!

Best to you !!
