If I took summer classes and applied for dental school this year, will the schools want to wait for my summer grades (August) to consider me? I realized that my GPA will be much higher by that time with taking 5 classes (3 of which are each 4-credit science courses at a CC) and getting all A's in them (which I know I will do).

cGPA 3.51 ----> 3.59
sGPA 3.36 ----> 3.43
BCP ~2.95 -----> ~3.2

I also graduate this summer in August, so it will be considered under my undergraduate GPA.

Do you think it's wise to wait and apply AFTER I get my grades? Or should I apply with what I have? I'll most likely be applying to both Texas (I'm a resident) and OOS.

I am impressed you can foresee the future.

1) did you take the DAT yet? iF not, when do you plan on taking it
2) if you wait until august, then your application will go out in august, instead of going out in the beg of june( if you have taken your DAT already).

3) you can update your grades in december, so you can submit your application early, then once your done with your summer, wait for the ACADEMIC UPDATE period, which I believe begins around mid nov, or dec.

Take classes at university if you're serious about raising your GPA. CC is okay for a few lower level prereqs, but dental schools will give you a thumbs down for going there to raise your science GPA.

Submit your app through TMDSAS in May/June, then you can update them with your summer grades in August.

😀
I have my DAT scheduled May 25.
If submit early, will they consider my new grades in December even if they decide to reject me before then?
OR should I just wait until next year to apply, and save my money while improving my grades the best I can?

I need to take Organic Chemistry II, and will be taking human ana/phy I & II. None of these are required for me to graduate. Do you think I will be okay with taking THESE courses at CC in the summer?, and then aim for upper sciences at my University during the Fall semester?

Why don't you take them this summer at University?

I think it proves alot more when you ace them at a University level then at CC. It would also look more favorable to dental schools. You're also eliminating good classes you could take at the university level to raise your science GPA if you take them this summer at CC.

Great time to retake it, take it, then submit as early as you can. Deff try to apply this cycle if you get a good score on the DAT. Try not to take classes at CC unless you absolutely have to.

Well, there are several reasons...they don't offer human phys/anatomy at university during the summer... the nearest CC is about 15 minutes away versus the 1 hour drive to my University... and CC classes save me thousands of dollars. I could take Orgo II during the summer at my University, but then I won't be able to work or take any other classes... Orgo II at CC is only 4 hours long... while Orgo II at my University is about 7 hours long.

But I do agree that CC classes don't look as good as University classes.

This is the smartest option HOWEVER...

Lets not make a decision whether you apply this year or next until your DAT retake

Now...because so many qualified applicants apply in June WHILE having all their classes already taken and calculated into GPA, schools might not care too much about waiting for your academical update period (which starts in Mid November), and they might put your file on the side or just reject you before that time comes....

According to what your saying, this summer (assuming you pull all A's) is going to give you a HUGE boost in the GPA department, if you decide to apply next year, I am betting your going to be able to bring the GPAs even higher, so you most definitely will have a stronger application.... I am not against you applying next year.
