Hey guys,

So I got my DAT score back. 18TS and 21PAT for AA of 18. I thought I did better but the grades dont lie. My sGPA is around 3.3 but I still have to finish this semester and one more in the fall (although my fall gpa wont be included in my application). You guys think I have a chance? Just looking for honest opinions.

Cheers.

If I had gotten an 18 in early April, I would retake in July before turning in the application. But until then, I would study my heart out

Retake it. Where do you expect your gpa to be when you apply?

If your GPA were higher I'd say it were passable. But you need to compensate a bit. Best of luck and don't lose heart!

The thing is my gpa is low because of a terrible freshman and 1st semester of sophomore year but ever since then my gpa per semester has been 3.7+ so do the admissions office look at how i've been trending ever since then?

They do consider upward trend, but in my opinion the combination of your GPA and DAT is still too low to be applying at this point. I don't think your chances would be very good this cycle, but a strong performance on your retake could boost them considerably.

I would retake as well. You stand being in the bottom 25% of the applicant pool.

I wouldn't apply this semester. Your GPA and DAT are too low.

Focus on imporving the science GPA over your final 2 semesters and retake the DAT and aim for a 21+ AA

I say apply.
Study your tail off for the DAT, do not let it intimidate you. Study hard and try to get the highest possible score. If you also expect your GPA to be higher at the end of the semester as well, then you could make yourself competitive. You will also have the opportunity for an academic update in the fall. Do not get discouraged.

Defintely still apply if you can raise your DAT to around 22+ AA

Retake DAT and apply. Continue taking science courses to improve that GPA (so that you're in a better position in the following cycle in case you don't get in during this one).

The easy choice is to retake and apply if you get more than 21
but, I wouldn't apply now you should retake in summer, focus on your grade now and in the fall semester, and then apply when both your gpa and dat are better, and I keep telling people the same thing, what's the rush. Gap year is not the end of the world, but if you apply now, you lose money(2000-3000 dollar) on a not a great chance to get in.
Just think about it, if you apply next cycle, your gpa is higher ( hopefully), your dat is higher(hopefully) and you will have more volunteering hours and shadowing hours.

But yeah if money is not an issue, apply by all means, you might get in.

And now I'll be honest here, maybe you came to SDN, saw people taking the DAT while during their ongoing semester, and you thought it's a good idea.
yeah, sure it might be a good idea for people who have 3.8+ GPA, they are already doing well in school, so even if they focus on the dat and neglected their GPA for a part of their semester, their gpa won't be hardly affected and they can pull a better dat, but for you, your gpa was already struggling, who encouraged you to take the DAT now?

So, yeah for everyone who wants to take the DAT during spring or fall semester, think again, it is always better to take it in summer.
In most cases, you can't do well in both of your courses and your DAT at the same time, one score has to struggle or maybe both will end up bad.

Take your time, and even if people say 2 months are more than enough for the DAT, don't follow their rules, apply your own rules and don't take the test until you are entirely ready.
