I am wondering whether or not I should apply to med school (md, do), or if I should apply to podiatry school (of which I have developed a genuine interest)based on stats alone....

I am an untraditional grad, who graduated in May. I have a 3.3 gpa and took the mcat and scored under a 20 (little prep, and a last minute decision that went wrong). I am retaking the auguat mcat. What should I do in order to become a stronger canidate.

Thanks in advance!

do well in your august MCAT. untraditional grad with 3.3 GPA + decent MCAT will get you in somewhere.

As you already know you need to rectify that MCAT score, something around a thirty would help. Your GPA is workable. From there all you can do is solidify your extracurriculars, some research might help. The other regulars, hospital volunteer, shadowing etc will help strengthen your app, but you got to get the numbers in line first. DO and podiatry are easier numbers wise, but you may want to check with some of the schools you are interested in and see what they say.

if you can get in the 25 range DO schools definitely are worth a shot. if you're a URM, then any school is fair game w/ a 25.

Prepare as much as you can for the MCAT--even take a prep course if you can afford it. Then see how you do. If you score at least a 28 (preferably a 30) go ahead and apply to allopathic schools and see what happens. If you score around a 25 look at D.O. schools. If you score around a 20, apply to podiatry schools. It will all depend on your MCAT score--not much point applying to an M.D. school with less than a 28 on the MCAT especially since your GPA's not that high.

I kind of agree with this. But, if you get a 27 or above then apply to MD and DO schools. Don't just apply allopathic because you really do never know. If you study hard you can do a 25 or higher. If you do, then you will make it somewhere if you apply to a large number of schools.
