I am currently a freshman college student and was deciding on a major to choose on. I am currently a Bio major but have been given alot of feedback to change to make myself look unique to adcoms. I have done 2 weeks of research but still cant find an easy and interesting major to do. I have narrowed my options to these majors:

Psychology
Humanities
English- Professional Writing
Marketing
Management
Communication
Philosophy
Public Health

Which of these majors would be the easiest to do with a Bio dual major. I am looking for a major with easy to understand classes that would allow me to easily balance both my premed classes with the major classes and also a major that looks good to admissions.

Do you want to do the extra major? Are you actually interested in any of those fields, or are you simply looking for the easiest one?

My advice: Do what interests you, not what looks good on paper. You'll enjoy college more and probably do better academically. That's the case for me at least. I always excel in classes I find interesting/challenging, not ones that are "easy".

If you love biology, can get great grades in it and see yourself getting a non Physician job with your degree stay with biology

Do a major that a) you have the ability to succeed in, and b) you are passionate enough about to study the subject in depth. Don't choose one based off of what you think adcoms want to see.

I am interested in some of those above majors, and am looking for advice on which one you think is the easiest.

Which of those are easy and which are more difficult are going to vary drastically by school.

Psychology was a good major for research opportunities and for the MCAT. As a plus, a lot of my psych courses counted as science when applying this year.

Right, it can vary greatly by school. Medical schools also want to see that you challenged yourself though, so you shouldn't just make your choice based on which one is the easiest.

I am under the impression that med schools do not care what your major is, as long as you do well. They do not care about how rigorous the courseload is, all they want is good GPA and completion of premed reqs.

Psychology is usually the easiest major. But be careful, even the easiest classes can end up being difficult when you're too bored to pay attention and study.

Pub Health is the easiest, but English and Philosophy would be the most interesting

If your sole reason for doing this is only to impress medical schools, then it doesn't really make sense to me. Just get stellar grades in your current classes, blow away the MCAT, and have good EC's. Also your view on college is a little wrong in my opinion. Don't just take the easy road. You think medical schools will be impressed with a student having a psych degree in addition to a bio degree? Devote your time to more important things. Do research and stand out that way. Much more productive than just adding a random "easy" major. That is just my 2 cents.

An important reason i'm looking for another major to tack on is to have a backup plan. There is not much a person can do with a bio degree, but having another major and experience can help in the long run

That's true for a lot of liberal arts degrees, not just bio. If you really want a major where you can have a solid backup plan, you will have to look at something like engineering or business.

I agree with some of the statements above. Choose a major that you're passionate about and can discuss, not just something that looks good. If you choose something because it's "easy" and then you actually do need to do plan B (not medicine) for whatever reason, you'll want to have studied something meaningful to you. Especially because it seems like the "what would you do if you can't do medicine" question comes up a lot at interviews. Answer it first, then choose a major that reflects that answer

Is there a reason why you want a double major instead of a bio major + "something interesting" minor?

"Interesting" minors at my school that I have come across based on my opinion: political science, candle-making (yes, someone I know minored in candle-making), botany, bio statistics, economics, art, history of medicine/science, film study etc.

No offense, but I don't think that public health or psychology is going to make you stand out that much... if you are going for the "wow this is very unique factor". Also remember, it is hard to be unique when there are over 50,000 people applying to medical school.

Bottom line is: do what YOU enjoy not what you think others will find interesting. It is very hard to be unique during this process based on major and MCAT scores only so use your experiences to make you stand out... not necessarily your major.

Only you can answer this. BTW, Adcoms don't care what your major or minor is, only that you do well.

You can do plenty with a bio degree. Do well, and you can even go to medical school 😉! Seems like you are doing this for all the wrong reasons. Just stick with your major and do well. You have more important things to worry about.

I did bio and finance which was a lot of credits (read: low gpa) but had decent job prospects if medical school didn't work out. Did it because I like business though, so just look for a major in a field you could see yourself working in.
