Hey everyone,

I'm a third year student here at UC Davis, Bio Sci major with Molecular and Cellular Biology emphasis. I have one more quarter for this year, and senior year with 3 quarters left. I also have the option to attend summer sessions which basically counts as another quarter. I have 6 more classes I need until I can graduate, but I do not want to graduate early because I'd like to take more classes. I have two choices, maybe a third, but they are:

Apply for and finish a Technology Management Minor which will let me take courses such as financing new business ventures, managing cost and quality, supply chain planning and management, and other technology related courses. This is the only business minor offered by my university, but I thought these courses are relevant to the field of dentistry since most practice privately, and would make for a better practice.

or

Should I fill up my max amount of units with science courses to boost my GPA (since it needs a lot of boosting). I can take extra, tough courses to help with my GPA since it's not very competitive right now.

maybe I can also do both if I stay a little longer as a third choice.

What do you guys think?

The allure to business interests me a lot since I've always wanted to start my own business.

Lastly, how does being a business minor help or hurt you in any way? Do the admissions committee see this as a strong point, or is it pretty neutral? Adcomms might see this as an applicant who does it all for the money, but I feel this will help in my career for the better of my patients, not only for me. Thank you for your time in reading, and any help is appreciated.

Mike

You would probably be better off taking science classes and boosting your GPA (depending on how low or high it is), since dental schools would weigh that more heavily than other courses. Especially if it is your science gpa that is lacking. Your GPA and DAT scores are most important and is what will get you the interviews.

UC DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE represent!

Haha, can't help it, sorry.

I would recommend taking additional upperdivision sciences as well since it would be more helpful. If you have additional questions, feel free to PM me!

Hmm, yeah I guess it would be better for me to take more science classes and do well. Maybe I can bring my GPA fast enough so I can do this minor, would love to do it. Any other inputs welcome, and thanks for the help from those above.

Well if you are really interested in doing that specific minor program, you could do that, and possibly take science classes post-bacc? Or apply to dental school and if you don't get in with your scores, take more science classes and apply again (maybe you will find that your gpa is good enough to get into dschool and you won't need the additional boost).

If you are open to taking some time off, maybe you could get a job to gain some business experience, while taking science classes at night?

Just some suggestions.

I would also check the avg gpas of accepted students at schools you are interested in to see how you match up and if you really need to boost your gpa.

What science classes have you taken so far?
If you already have a bunch of science classes, having a minor might not be a bad idea 🙂😀😎

take the upper level science. it'll prove to d-schools that you can handle that material, plus it'll give you head start on the material when you actually study it in d-school.
if you still want business, you can always apply for dmd/mba, BALLIN!!!!
