Hi I am new to this site and have so far found it really helpful. The reason I am posting is because I really need some advice on how to proceed with my future. All advice/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Where I am right now:
1. Bachelors of Science from UC Davis in Biology. Ug GPA 2.8
2. Studying for MCATS (signed up for April)
3. Took GRE with 1400 and 5's on both essays
4. Volunteering at Orthopaedic Department at UC Irvine Medical Center
5. Shadowing doctors at UCI medical center
6. Interning at two research labs:
a. Stem Cell research
b. Breast Cancer research
Because of my low undergraduate GPA I have been trying to decide whether a post bacc or a Special Masters Program is the best path for me. I have been leaning more towards an SMP because of the fact that I will be able to obtain a Masters degree as I increase my academic records. However, being from southern California, other than Western University, there aren't any other SMP's available. I was wondering what would be a better path to take in order to increase my chances of one day getting into medical school.
1. Applying to Special Masters Program
2. Doing a Post Bacc at school close to my home (such as UCI, USC, UCLA) while continuing to volunteer and intern at the labs. The reason why I would like to continue working at the lab is that there are lots of opportunities for my name to be published.
Please let me know what is a better path to take. Thank you so much.
