Hey everyone,
So i graduated last May with a double major in Biochem and Biology
Shot myself in the foot there and graduated with a 2.92 GPA (science should be around 2.9). Oh and there wasn't an upward trend i usually hovered around 3.0.

I took the MCAT last summer and got a 30P.

I'm currently volunteering and doing research at the NIH. I have OK extra-curriculars (was an RA, volunteered at hospitals, did habitat for humanity etc.. etc..)

I'm also looking at doing the PCOM biomed certificate program next year to help the GPA situation but if i do that, i dont know whether to to apply to medical school this summer (2011) to both osteopathic and allopathic or to wait a year and apply summer of 2012 after i get grades from the biomed program. Which leaves me with a gap year but i'll have the full years worth of grades in my application.

Or do i even have a shot at DO schools as is without a post-bac? (30k+ in graduate loans is kinda scaring me especially if i have to add medical school loans on top of that.) Also, if i apply in 2012 i'll have a gap year in which i'll probably finish the biomed master at pcom leaving me with like 60k worth in debt. is that too much debt???

So i guess my questions are:
Am i competitive as is for DO schools (PCOM in perticular) without a post-bac?

If i do the post bac should i apply to med school before starting the certificate program or after i get a years worth of grades?

Sorry if this is kinda long but any advice would be welcome!

Competetive? Not really, but you make make the secondaries at someof the newer schools.

AdComs are going to want to see that you can handle the brutal load of medical school, and not just that you're a good stanardized test taker. My advice is not to apply at all until you finished with your post-bac.
