I have been lurking around here for awhile, but this is my first post and I need some advice.

I am a 27 yr old female who decided to go back to school to finish my B.A. in Bio after taking being out of school for 5+ years. I never really knew what I wanted to do at the time, and was just immature and didn't try. Most of my early transcripts consist of C's and W's. I started off with a 2.2 gpa and have been able to pull my gpa up to about a 3.03 (while working full time 60+ hrs a week ) However, I have about 1.5-2 years left to complete all my coursework/prereqs and even if I get 4.0 from now on, it is barely going to be 3.3. With that being said, do I even have a shot at med school due to my gpa?

I plan on quitting my job in jan (scary in this economy!) for the spring semester to ensure that I get A's in all my classes and so that I can have more free time to do some volunteer work that I am interested in/shadowing etc. I already have a physician that is willing to let me shadow and I am contemplating doing a scribe program and working on getting some sort of research experience for next year. I also am applying for UCLA prep program, although I am not sure if I have a shot, since I have really no clinical experience:/

Any suggestions or tips? Do I even have a shot since my gpa is not very competitive?

(Also, I know there is a lot of discussion about this, but it seems pretty divided....what's worse a B/C or a W in a science course? My physio class has been a difficult class and I am only going to realistically pull a B. I have worked hard to raise my GPA, so is that going to look bad that I could only manage a B in that class?)

Your GPA isn't that bad, at least not bad enough to keep you out of medical school. Focus on doing well in all your classes from now on, especially the prerequisites. If you can retake a few of the classes in which you got C's or lower and do well on the MCAT, you will have an excellent shot at a DO school.
