I see that the prerequisite courses for most DO schools are:

8 semester hrs of Biology
8 semester hrs of General Chem
8 semester hrs of Organic Chem
8 semester hrs of Physics
6 semester hrs of English
Upper level courses in Biology
Math through Calculus 2

Are these a good summation of the bare minimum courses required to apply? Also..when they say "English", do they mean just English 1 and 2 or any upper level English course as well? Because if so, I need to retake some English courses..haha

Also..is known that if I flunked bio as a freshman but aced it as a senior they will take the latest attempt (the A), and this goes for all retaken courses?

Thanks

Most DO schools require calculus 2? Which? Also, DO schools will factor in all retakes, not just the sciences.

Some require 1 semester of biochemistry. When they say English, any English/Composition courses apply.

Calc 2 😱

I don't even see calc 1 listed at most. And you don't need upper level courses in bio, although they don't hurt.

No, Calculus is a minority upon pre-requisites for osteopathic medical schools. The "Upper-Level" biology courses are also not really a requirement for most medical schools.

Most require 6 credits of Behavioral Science also

Cool, I've got a psych degree so at least I'm ok there! Might have to retake an English class though. Ugh

You've prob taken English courses as requirements from ur university

I have but I'd like to retake to make A's

^ this, especially in non science courses. I haven't heard or seen any DO school require calc (or math really) as any sort of pre req. If any of them do which ones are they?

Most DO programs recommend stats before calc. To be safe just take calc 1 and intro to stats. That way you will get the stat only schools and the schools that require two math classes without having to take calc 2 (which is a complete pain in the ass at my undergrad)

Here's what you need to look at... The official College Information Book... pdf is free

Pick 5-10 colleges you think you might like or would definitely want and see specifically what they want as well as would like. Also lots of really good info every premed OM student should read. Set yourself up to fulfill as many recommended things as possible and that will increase your chances greatly.

Thank you for this!

I would like to add that everyone needs to double check before assuming (like I did) that grade replacement is the policy at most every DO school. I just got word from William Carey COM in Mississippi that they do not do this and instead look at every class taken..just a heads up I'm sure most of you were aware anyway

Eh They still use grade replacement for the GPA. They might look at all classes and calculate your combined GPA on their own but they have to use grade replacement because it is AACOMAS that does the grade replacement. Not the schools. The only DO school that completely doesn't is TCOM because they don't use AACOMAS
