Hello. I'm submitting my dental application within the next couple of days. I have a 3.4 overall gpa and a 3.2 science gpa, with A LOT of upper level science classes, including a minor in biology. I'm taking DATs in next couple of weeks, which I have to obviously do really well on. I'm just having trouble finalizing my schools to apply to list. I live in the New York City area, and I currently have 24 schools on my application. Money is NOT an issue for me. I just want the best possible chance for an acceptance as possible. I'm well aware that the secondaries and dental interview fees are going to make my application very expensive. I still want to narrow down my schools to about 15 - 20. So far I have

Arizona
Midwestern Arizona
USC
University of the Pacific
Uconn
Nova
Midwestern Illinois
Boston University
Tufts
Maryland
Detroit Mercy
Creighton
Rutgers
Nevada
Columbia
NYU
Stony Brook
Buffalo
Case Western
Temple
Penn
Pitt
Virginia Commonwealth University
West Virginia University

Based on people's experience on this forum, are there any schools that I should straight up omit, and also are there any schools that I might consider adding?

I really want the best chance to atleast get some interviews, and hopefully an acceptance if I do very well on the DATs. I have strong LORs and personal statement.

ANY ADVICE AND EXPERTISE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! (kinda running out of time obviously) 🙂 😳

You might want to take a second look at WVU.

Add LECOM and Roseman.

Other than that, you're good to go.👍

Good luck in the next couple of weeks.🙂

Oh wow that's a lot of schools. I don't know how to narrow it down!!! What criteria to narrow it down should I use. I mean I'm willing to go anywhere at this point...

Do you honestly want to reduce that amount of schools?

Concur, you need to double check West Virginia.

Add UNE also

I mean that's 25 + schools....seems like a tad too much. I was aiming at the 20 school range.

Is your BCPGPA greater than your sciGPA? (Y-or-N)

I took a lot of advanced biology courses the last two years which boosted my gpa...so yeah I guess it is. But my chemistry gpa is low. I haven't calculated them thoroughly yet.

Depending on how you perform on your upcoming DAT, you may want to take a second look at the schools in bold using the 2013 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools, doc toothache's Guides, and make sure your general intent/motive as highlighted in your applications aligns with the schools-of-interest's mission/vision; otherwise, you're probably not making informed use of your "Money is NOT an issue for me" use of your money and, by extension, your time and resources. You know yourself better than us to decide whether or not your applications align. Do your own research.

Good luck.🙂
