Need some serious advice

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sounds like you may have some soul searching to do. When it comes to being an applicant, you really want to put your best foot forward at each and every opportunity. The grades you may get from a semester with some hardships may be way less damaging than the fact you are pursuing another career path simultaneously. This uncertainty on your part will likely give dental schools a legit reason to question your commitment to becoming a dentist.

It sounds like you set yourself up for failure by switching to a plan B without even really giving plan A a fair shot.

I know it's hard to make decisions but one is due hopefully sooner than later.

In all honestly I think your grades coupled with a good DAT score will give you a very good chance but I think you may have some thinking to do before then.

Good luck

I agree with Beta don't do the Info systems degree. Dental School is an all or nothing proposition....one of the MAIN qualities you need to demonstrate to get admission is that you are 100% committed to being a Dentist, not 75% committed like you sound right now. You say your depressed but it just sounds like burnout to me, totally normal. Take some time off but make sure you have a good answer to the question "What did you do during your gap year?".

Good Luck!!

Perhaps you should be asking a university advisor/mentor rather than strangers on the Internet regarding life goal advice.

I have so many Ws on my transcripts, at least 1 F, a couple Ds, some Cs, and yet I'm in dental school. A 3.4 and 3.2 paired with a 22+ and nothing below an 18 academically should be OK provided you have the ECs, PS, get interviews, and ace them.

The thing I want you to know is that no matter how badly things feel or seem to be going now is that the perception of hardness or difficulty is always relative. When you succeed and look back, you'll appreciate how much effort you had to put in to be where you are and wouldn't want it any other way. I know how much it sucks to work yourself to the bone and not have concrete results.

One bad semester won't sink you. I had several rough years... you'd be surprised at how understanding schools can be when they see how you have handled those situations and if you have made meaning from them and still accomplished something during those times. I don't have a degree in any kind of counseling, but I'm happy to lend my ears and perspective if you'd like someone to talk to who won't judge you but will try to offer suggestions that might be compatible or feasible given your situation.
