Hello gang, BH here 🙂

Ok, I'm currently in CC en route to an AA degree than transferring to a Uni, what do you think would look better when applying to Medical School, an AA in Computer Science, or an AA in Nursing-RN.

All opinions are greatly appreciated!

From what I've read, most people discourage going the nursing route. Some people would have better opinions than me, but I assume med schools look at a nursing degree as inferior to other degrees (for whatever reasons).

Yeah, I think sometimes medical schools will think, why don't you want to become a nurse if you're already investing time into it? (Whereas computer science could just be an interest type of thing)

They will not care what your AA is in, as long as your grades are good. Just a boring ol' general AA will do just fine. Keep your grades up after you transfer.

As your undergrad major does not really matter, it doesn't matter what your AA is. Just get the AA, transfer to a four-year university, rock your classes, and get an awesome GPA.

This applies more to the BSN than to an AA degree. We had a pretty lengthy discussion about it a couple months ago, the cliffnotes version is that applied sciences degrees may or may not be equivalent to a B.A. or a B.S. but probably are not better (and so a person choosing between them, if they don't have a preference, would potentially be better off with the B.A. or B.S.)

However, if you had an AA in nursing and actually worked as a nurse while you were finishing up a BA/BS in another field, that could potentially help your application quite a bit. Having that clinical experience in there would be great. You just have to figure out where you're going with your university career, because an AA in nursing could leave you a bit behind the curve getting finished up with another degree, whereas the computer science degree could maybe be finished off quickly.
