Hello,

I am planning on applying this cycle and I wanted to know whether it would matter if I took some summer courses to raise my gpa, especially my science gpa?

I have a 3.4 gpa & 3.1 sgpa

I’m a senior right now and am URM.

I haven’t taken the MCAT yet, I’m studying for it now.

OR should I take some summer courses and apply late to the cycle?

Thank you for the advice!!

Upward trend. I started out with a low gpa freshmen year. However, I did get a low grade last year in a science class.

I'm unsure whether to apply this coming cycle or try to raise my gpa in the summer.

What’s your rush? Slow down and do it right? How is the MCAT studying going? Have you taken any FL practice tests? What are you scoring? How are your ECs? Are you considering DO?

My ECs are all pretty good. The last full length I took I got a 507 (kaplan) but this was a month ago. I'm just confused about whether to apply this cycle or not. I feel like I don't want to wait another year to apply because that would be two gap years. Would it make a difference if I took some science summer courses to raise my gpa a little bit.

Well you wouldn’t be able to apply until your summer classes are over and depending on when that is you might have a 4+ week wait to be verified once all of your transcripts are received. If you think your ECs are” pretty good” maybe you should wait a year and make them excellent. Ultimately it’s your decision. But you really only want to apply one time with the best application possible.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking of maybe taking 5 classes in the summer (first session) and raise my gpa, which when I calculated now can go up to 3.5/3.3(sgpa). Do you think it would be worth it to take the science classes to raise my gpa slightly?

If you can take that course load and ace it then you should. Don't bite off more than you can chew or you might end up bringing your GPA down instead.
