Hi, I'm a married 21 year old with an associate degree in accounting. I had always thought I wanted to do something in the medical field but never really thought I was smart enough.

My husband and I moved from Memphis to Arkansas to attend college but we've both ended up working full time so neither of us have been able to start. I started working at the local hospital transporting for CT. I not only get to transport but I also get to help out and get some hands on expierence. Since I have started that job (about 2 months ago) I have realized how much I would really like being in the medical field. I love my job and the environment.

Now my husband and I are thinking about moving back to Memphis because he got a great job offer that would allow me not to work so I can go to school. I really want to start studying pre-med. The only thing is my GPA is not great. I know now being older and especially not having to work I can keep my grades up. How can I bring my GPA up? Also, I would like to take biology over because I had a horrible teacher that I learned nothing from. That is really the only science class I have taken.
I'm going to list the classes that may be useful for me now:
English Comp I - A
Princ of Biology -B
Lab -A
English Comp II- C
Princ of Biology II- B
Lab- A
Gen Physcology -C
Public Speaking - C
College algebra -A

Total hours: 89

GPA: 3.12

If you were me how would you begin working your way toward medical school?

Get A's. DO schools allow you to replace grades. You may want to retake the classes you got C's in.

Not really necessary. You got a B. Maybe take a couple upper level bio classes to show you can handle the work. Also don't blame your teachers anymore. You are capable of reading a textbook and teaching the material to yourself. This is an immature excuse for getting a poor grade.

Get A's in everything. Shadow a doctor. Find out why they like their field and why they hate it. Would they do it over again.. etc.

And you really aren't very old at all. Please understand what you are getting yourself into. This path is difficult. Extremely difficult. Do you really want to spend the next 6 years minimum in school struggling through dense scientific material? Good luck in whatever you decide.

Also, you will need a bachelor's degree. Major in anything that you find interesting and you can do well in. With the prerequisite classes you'll have a good start on a biology or chemistry degree, but you certainly don't have to get your degree in them.
