"This is to make you aware that the animal rights extremist group called Negotiation is Over (NIO) has urged its followers to target University students, infiltrate campuses and disrupt final exams this week."" is one of the institutions listed in the State-by-State Vivisectors Directory on the NIO's website. The NIO openly supports violence against animal users(including persons using animals in research, education and farming) and has identified students as "soft targets". A statement on their War on Vivisection Students page says:

"Students also need to understand that making the wrong choice will result in a lifetime of grief. Aspiring scientists envision curing cancer at the Mayo Clinic. We need to impart a new vision: car bombs, 24/7 security camera, embarrassing home demonstrations, threats, injuries and fear. And, of course, these students need to realize that any personal risk they are willing to assume will also be visited upon their parents, children and nearest & dearest loved ones. The time to reconsider is now". [The students pictured on this page appear to be medical students in a lab that involves models]"

yea i thought all vet schools were like this? we had a problem with some animal rights activists last semester but nothing this crazy. they put up a poster with a monkey being used in experiments, one of those really old pics from probably the 60s and they were trying to interview/interrogate people walking out of the school. we were sent a warning about people tailgating.

At least we have swipe ins for the mouse rooms, but I am not too fearful I am pretty sure I can be bigger problem for them. I mean did live in a literal ghetto and still do for 21 years. Yeah, we've actually had our lab codes changed because of people like this. The California school systems have gotten some threats as of late, and though our campus wasn't on their "hitlist", we just changed everything. Most people at our school though are unaware that we have a mouse colony on campus.

At the risk of being tagged as supportive of this craziness (I'm NOT)......

They most likely (I can't say for certain, as I don't know any militant terrorist types) see at as different based on 'choice': The animals have no choice to participate, the humans involved have complete choice. It's not that humans are an animal and thus hurting humans is no different than hurting animals.... it's that one group (humans) are the aggressors and the other (animals) are the abused.

... which, of course, just makes the part about hurting parents/spouses/children all the more hypocritical.

That said, I will admit I was a lot more batty (animal-rights-fruit and otherwise) in the past. But I was also a teenager, when being batty in some way or another is almost a requirement. I assume these people are adults, so I don't know what their excuses are.

My point being please, oh please, if you are omnivorous, don't assume that all vegans/vegetarians are obnoxious, potentially violent extremists because of groups like NIO/ALF/PETA. It's like the difference between domesticated cats and tigers; we may be in the same family, but we sure ain't the same species.

I was really concerned that people in the animal health field would judge me harshly when they found out I was vegan. Ha, my dad says I eat "rabbit food" all the time. It's definitely annoying getting judged all the time in school for it, as a vegan, but usually it doesn't bother me because I'm not an extremist. What bothers me more is the use of homophobic/bigoted language in characterizing vegans.
