Anyone here graduate with a business degree, have substantial business experience, or very very interested in dental business? I'm looking to network and hopefully create a group of like-minded individuals who are interested in not only clinical excellence in dentistry, but also business excellence. I want to privately discuss resources, ideas, and strategies with others like myself. Topics would include administration, growth, marketing, management, multiple practice ownership (and in that light corporate dentistry), personal finance, and more.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you don't want to post publicly. For those of you who don't know who I am or are seeking substantiation for my (basic) level of expertise, I am:
-college grad with marketing degree
-marketing manager at a dental practice during my gap year
-founder of dentalaptitude, and blog that mostly addresses philosophy of dental business

-avid reader and podcast listener that consumes much dental business info

Great Idea, I know a little bit about practice acquisition and transition. I was involved with several practice sales and learned from the transition team. Maybe I could be of some help

Great Idea! I'm definitely interested! I listened to this podcast where these two dental students started a business club at their school where they brought in speakers and talked about business stuff. They would meet like twice a month or something too. I think that would be really cool to start and could have some interest with the students.

I see you staying active on DT hahah! This is a great idea! Do you want to create a Facebook group or you have something else in minded?

Yep, I heard that episode as well. Dr. Costes. I actually plan on (although it remains to be seen) being incredibly active in my school's business society as well, and want to borrow some of their ideas and implement some of my own personal ones.

Haha yeah, some of the consultants definitely don't appreciate my criticism because I speak my mind freely on there, and don't stand for their sales BS. Really irks me, and I'm not sure if you saw the legendary "online scheduling" thread where myself along with many other dentists were bashing Mark D, and everything honestly flew over his head. He made himself look bad, big time. I was actually considering Skype or a group chat type thing, because I'm not much for Facebook. My initial thoughts are once a week group podcast listening and dissection, with a follow up to show new things we've learned on top of that podcast and implementable ideas. We don't have to do exclusively podcasts, we can have a shared base of knowledge of the so-called "pearls" and organize them into a huge database for members only. I don't want to be very exclusive, but feel as though there has to be some degree of qualifying factor. That doesn't mean you have to have business experience, but I do want people who would take it seriously and put in work.

I will PM you later.

So, nonrelated to this (haven't even read your answer or the thread), but I'm a huge fan of HIMYM and everytime I see Barney, I think "incis0r" :penguin:

I think the same thing when I think of Barney now haha.

Absolutely. I want to make some sort of central resource that we can keep adding books to.

I have a LONG 60+ book list somewhere, but off the top of my head "The Energy Bus" and "Good to Great" are good ones to start with.

Is "Rich dad poor dad" a good book for this type of thing? I recommend it
@Viva Terlingua

Looks like a good jumping off point - Much appreciated!

I def be interested! Any podcast or book recommendations to start off with? I see the dentralpreneur as a possible podcast.

please join "ambitious dental students" on dentaltown... its a great group.

I am going to! I still want to create a new group with a young generation that learns lessons from those who has been through it all, and try to expound upon their ideas. It's not going to be a public group.

Dentalpreneur is great, as I always caution take everything with a grain of salt. Plenty of good info though, more than most IMO.

Dental Hacks is cool to learn about clinical dentistry for another podcast.

Howard Farran's podcast is alright, but I'd personally go with the other two first.

Books wise, pick a business topic that interests you and read a college level textbook before moving into dental specific books. Gives you better perspective.

Hey everybody. I think we have over 10 people who have expressed interest in this now. For those still intending on participating, would you be available for a skype/teamspeak conference (taking recommendations on communication platforms if you have any) on Wednesday night? We could start off with a podcast and have a group discussion. Also icebreakers to introduce our real selves so we are talking with each other, not pseudonyms

I have a meeting Wednesday night, but if I miss the first conference I'll be at the second one for sure!

Alright, everyone who is serious make a HipChat account. I know that app sounds weird, but it has incredible features that were better than skype/google hangout and anything else I can find. I'll invite you to the private group once you PM me your user name. Meeting tomorrow night at 7pm MDT (9 eastern). We're just going to meet to introduce ourselves, talk about what we want to learn and create objectives so we can plan on what we want to learn.

Ok everybody. I've been having a difficult time with figuring out this program. I took the room off of private for now, and I'm leaving the room public until tonight.
