Yes and yes, however training is available for interested individuals. The neurologists who do it tend to focus on stroke and not endovascular management of vascular lesions, which I think is somewhat less favored by programs which accept all specialty candidates, but there are no hard and fast rules. There are not enough trained interventional neuroradiologists. Be prepared to make interventional a big part of your job and call schedule -- I feel there is no justification for the ocasional angiographer.
