Which atlas did you use for neuro and did you actually find it useful?

Haines is the most commonly used atlas, though it kind of sucks. If you actually want to learn neuroanatomy, Blumenfeld is the way to go.

I used Haines, and thought it was pretty good (with the exception of the fact that all the brainstem slices were asymmetrical because the person from whom the specimens were obtained had had an infarct). Where Haines didn't suffice, I used Netter to fill in the gaps.

I'm probably the only person in my class who used Netter's, but that was because the prof gave us the photos in Haines. So I started with Netter's which does a good job of showing both sides of the brainstem via illustration and then went to Haines which is what we were actually tested on (i.e. photos on the exams were from Haines).

How about the textbook though?

Our school suggests Woolsey. I liked it a lot - it's a great neuro atlas.

As for a text, we used Nolte. Very readable, overall a good textbook 👍
