I've heard that HY and FA are the best books for it. Is BRS good also or is everything you need covered in HY? Also are pretest or brs questions more similar to the shelf exam questions?

I can't comment on the shelf exam or the proper route to take for preparation. I can tell you that while BRS is great for learning the material, its questions are not typical of what you would encounter on the boards. Pre-Test has to be the worst study series I have ever seen. The questions are usually beyond the scope of what's required learning, yet doesn't do an adequate job of preparing you for what you should know as an M1/M2.
