A company called Sophono that has been operating in Europe (first implant in 2006 I believe) got FDA approval June 1 for their Alpha 1(M) which funtions using a transdermal magnet to hold the oscillator to the skull (like the magnet in a CI that holds the processor to the skull) instead of the traditional titanium abutment. I think it's a pretty awesome idea.

thanks for sharing! that's really awesome. i seem to remember hearing that this was problematic in the past because the force involved with bone conduction hearing aids would cause migration of the internal magnet. i could just be making that up but it would make sense anyway if that was true. if this works well it seems like a great alternative to the BAHA. look out Cochlear!
