Im addicted to the new dungeons and dragons online game. Totally sweet, better graphics than WoW, EQ, Doom etc. with less repetitive game and built in voice over IP so you are actually talking to group members from day one. I think it provides the perfect escapism from the daily grind of healthcare 🙂

Comparable $$ to WoW (14/mo if you get a mo-mo type thing). Definitely WoW has some nice aspects, but so far the overal gaming experience in DDO is way better. No farmer bots, no loot ****** (you cant inspect gear on other players, making penis envy a thing of the past), no crazy guilds running around noob zone slaughtering everyone in PvP, multiclassing allows 150+ combos for character design you will never seen in a game with 6-8 classes. Literally every class is useful too and powerful. NO repetitive play! No killing the same savannah lion for xp 300 times, there is no xp AT ALL given for killing MOBs, its pure finesse game play with combat avoidance being rewarded as much as hack and slash crap that has defined previous MMOs. Well balanced. No wonder it took em so long to develop. The built in voice over is awesome. Im on Sarlona server if anyone wants to start up a regular SDN path party🙂

So far it gets my highest recommendation.

And you can take rest breaks mid instance to do stuff, I signed out an acute leukemia via the internet while resting my barbarian after killing a dozen kobolds! Modern technology is awesome.

Damnit Jim! Clerics can't use swords. I guess I would be missing out on using kickass weapons like the Long Sword +15, B!tchslapper. Clerics basically use flails or maces which are lame. So considering that my weapon would likely suck, I would have to go all out magic and be a cleric/mage. The only thing about that is level advancement is slower and I'd be a ***** character so I'd need badass fighters, pally's, rangers, etc to protect my delicate cornhole from being gangraped by a bunch of angry black dragons.

I think elven clerics can use long swords/bow. This is 3.5 edition D&D so you can multiclass anything at anytime, you can always splash in a level of fighter so you could use any weapon if you wanted. Cleric/Wizard aint bad, but since the game at the moment is limited to 10 levels you could only ever get to 5/5 which isnt that great of spell selection.

I want to start a healthcare based guild, with docs and nurses and stuff, adventuring around, hacking up mean dragons and singing songs about hobbits, would be fun!

This is 3.5 edition D&D so you can multiclass anything at anytime, you can always splash in a level of fighter so you could use any weapon if you wanted. I am not a fan of the cartoonish graphics of WoW for one, of course that is a matter of taste. The single biggest thing in a MMO are the players themselves, the average age of WoWers sometimes seems to be more near 12. DDO is a more intelligent game from the ground up, everything from the combat system to character design. In terms of melee fighting, the options you have other than simply standing there and hacking away with a ******ed sword graphic are fantastic, DDO allows you tumble, roll, block, shield, shield bash and takes into positioning when calculating to hit and damage. The combination of classes and levels with all the other areas of customization you get per level means its unlikely any 2 characters will be the same unless intended. Face it, a 60 WoW Horde Shaman has only a few viable build options if you want to survive PvP, everyone ends up being carbon copies due to the Darwinian pressure to survive battlegrounds. DDO has none of that, in fact even ******ed character choices people make can be fairly viable and fun.

Other things I hated about WoW like all the equipment being soulbound so none of your other characters could use it, the endless shopping at the laggy AH in an effort to keep up with Jones' and absurd running for an hour to get to a zone across the world (which is still better than EQ where you can run in total darkness for literally hours before spotting a MOB) are lacking in DDO.

For people with limited amounts of time who want to log and immediately hit a cool dungeon, slay some baddies and get a quick reward, DDO FTW.

Yes you really need no DnD knowledge at all, in fact too much DnD is screwing alot of people up as there are subtle yet important rule changes in the online version. No you do not need to have played anything to get into this. Just make a hot female elf avatar and watch the countless cybergeeks fall over themselves trying to help you.

I really prefer the free online games cause I'm too cheap to pay for monthly access. Anyone try Wolfenstein Enemy Territory -- it's a 100% free download w/ free access to their servers.

258MB graphics cards dont exist, likely you have a 256MB. The more important thing is the model and less the cache size. I think you need better or equal to Radeon ATI 9200, 1 gig of ram is better but I think you can limp by on 500MB. I love ole Wolfenstein but played so much in high school I got burnt out on 1st person shooter types. The monthly fee for any good MMO is well worth it considering the amount of the time you end up spending playing it.

Yeah I have a Raedon 9200. Those jerks told me it was 258MB, I guess I got ripped off.

I've got step 1 coming up then the wards so I think the problem is that I would spend a lot of time playing it. I hate limping by on games, esp real time online games b/c you're always a step behind when anything is going on.

What do these three things have in common? They all decrease your AC by 5 making you that much more resistant to damage.

And who said a buttplug didn't provide that much protective benefit! Hrmph!

See, god bless the blacksmith who designed the buttplug of greater shielding +5...mages can't wear chain or plate mail. Hell, mages can't even wear leather armor. But a buttplug! Holy beard of Zeus! I think we're onto something!

The sad thing is I have been ganked by tools like that when I played the Horde. There is nothing to drop the ego than being butt mined by a gnome!!! I had these 2 little craps that followed me around for the better part of a afternoon killing me over and over again. They would dance around my dead body too, I thought I was gonna loose it.

Because of stuff like this I play PvE (and because I'm a wuss. ) I like PvP but only do it in the battlegrounds.

What about solo-ing? I won't have the time to deal with all the party building and friend making. D&D has traditionally been about parties and even cooperation, and the website say they encourage this. Is it impossible to kill high level monsters without a party? I can understand undead ancient wyrms of dark death needing a party, but what about lesser stuff?

That's what I loved about Ultima Online....once you were badass enough and had mad skills, you could take down anything on your own.

3.5 definately allows this, I was in a short lived paper 3.5 game and we need a cleric, so I rolled an Elven one specificly to get arround the no swords thing. Actually, he spend most combat sniping with his long bow, good times.

Grouped last night with a couple of docs from Montreal and 3 randoms. We get in the dungeon, and I start hearing this weird azz language in voice chat. The french canadian guys and I have no clue, it sounded like something from an Exorcist flick. Then these 3 randoms began a whirlwind of death, I had barely cracked open another brew and passed gas and they had already killed everything in the whole dungeon. The 3 randoms were kids from Indonesia, I didnt even know they had internet there!

...At that moment I realized Western Civilization is doomed. I almost didnt even come into work today..
