So they are changing the GRE in a few months right?

http://www.grecenter.com/summary_of_changes.html

has there been a thread on this yet? i've taken the GRE (1350, 720Q, 630V) but am debating taking it again. looks like the new test will be pretty scary though... does anyone have any thoughts on the new format?

for all those who need to take the GRE between now and next year's cycle (I assume this won't apply to those applying now) look into these changes because it will change the way you study!

Your score is fine unless you are applying to a super-competitive program. Once you make it onto the short pile your GRE score means little if anything. The GRE is just a hurdle, once past, it comes down to everything else like LORs, Research and Clinical Experience, and your Essay become important.

Think of GRE/GPA as being gatekeepers.

thanks t4c and markp!

mark~ i have a 3.4 GPA so i'm a little worried that i need to bring up my GRE to make up for it. i went to columbia undergrad, but i still worry that it's not enough. i am applying to some top tier programs, one of which is my favorite - so i'm trying to do what i can to prevent myself from being cut out during the initial GPA/GRE look-through!

Where are you applying?

I made it past the GRE/GPA hurdle at UT Austin, UC Boulder, and many other really good programs and into the short stack with only a 1300 GRE and a 4.0 GPA from UT San Antonio (not exactly a tier one school.) On the other hand my scores were not competitive at University of Michigan, Yale, or Duke.
