Hello,

I'm 28 with no wife or kids, and work full time in an art museum.

I have an undergrad in fine arts with a concentration in sculpture fron the maryland institute college of art. I realize that to pursue a career in medicine seems like ive done a 180, and yet it makes sense to me after some soul searching. My grades were not stellar. I graduated with a 2.97.
I have since enrolled in a CC to return to mathematics until Calculus. I had spoken with an advisor who told me that when calculus ready, then enroll and begin the rest of the math and sciences at University of Texas.
Yesterday I printed volunteer forms for nearby hospitals to begin volunteering on the weekends.
I've already begun this journey, but I'm beginning to feel a little discouraged after reading some posts about 3.0 gpa's.

Am I on the right path? What special considerations should I account for in addition to ample volunteer time and an above average MCAT score? Aside from doing really well in my upcomming classes, how else could i raise my gpa? Taking a few more upper div. classes?

A local CC might be cheaper and smaller class sizes for you pre-med courses compared to the 4 yr Uni. You may be able to get some "stellar" LoRs from your professors.

Seems like you are on the right track

They will definitely be cheaper and smaller, but my concern is that i dont want them to be frowned upon by an admissions interview.
