Hey guys, recently one of my letters of recommendation got leaked by interfolio and therefore the professor retracted the letter of recommendation she wrote for me; at least she understands that it is interfolio's fault and isn't questioning my integrity or anything.

I am really upset however, I don't know what to do; I could ask for a letter of recommendation from my previous biology professors but it has been a long time since I have taken their class and I doubt they can write me a strong letter of recommendation. I'm just thinking about applying next cycle and get a professor from next year to write me a letter of recommendation. I know this might not be appropriate to post here but I just can't believe interfolio could make a mistake this badly.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be helpful.

So the professor isn't willing to write another one??

I used Interfolio to gather all my letters electronically and had no issues. I liked Interfolio because you have them in your dossier and don't have to keep sending reminder emails to professors and other letter writers about the urgency of needing their letter.

I wonder if an email from Interfolio supervisor or something would help smooth things over with that professor?

As far as asking previous biology professors, this is exactly what I did. Didn't use the a committee letter either. Just letters from individuals.

A friend already in dental school encouraged me to ask my professors if I could meet with them and let them know WHY I wanted to go to dental school. Gave me the chance to explain my motivation and really really lay out why I had chosen to pursue D.S. Like reading a P.S. but without the character limit. It was like a D.S. interview kinda where they asked me questions and we just chatted. Very informal but I wanted to help see my passion and also give them more to reference than just my transcript and the fact that I participated in class and made an A. We all need strong to stellar letters, not reports about our grades ya know.

Make sense?

I'm Class of '22 so I just went through the whole process

LORs are just one hoop we have to jump through in the application process.

Best of luck!

Wasting a whole year because of a letter? How many letters do you have? Do you have a committee letter?

Ask for a letter from any science faculty who is qualified to write one. Don't let one letter cost you $100k of income potential

I would say ask another professor. If they don't feel comfortable writing you a recommendation letter because they don't know you well, they will hopefully tell you and then you have your answer and just have to ask someone else. I had some letters that were from professors that I didn't know as well as others and it worked out fine. Like someone else said, you can always talk to the professor and let them know why you're interested in pursuing dentistry, which will help form a stronger relationship with them now for them to write the letter. I would not hold back a whole year, just because of one recommendation letter. If you have the ECs, PS, GPAs, DAT scores, you should go for it, you'll probably thank yourself in the long run.
