First post, sorry if it's in the wrong place! I discovered this website last week and it has been so helpful so I'm excited to be a part of the community.

I am preparing to apply to DO schools this June (2015) for the 2015-2016 cycle, and will be taking the new 2015 MCAT in April (scores come back in June). I have not taken any MCAT exam before so this will be my first. My only concern: Are there any DO schools that will only be accepting the old MCAT for the 2015-2016 cycle, or can I use just this one MCAT score? Or is it too early to know, and should I contact schools individually in the spring?

Thanks!

If you have not taken MCAT yet and are not registered to take the old version in January (which is the last time it will be offered), you have no choice but to take the new MCAT. And no, there are no schools that will only accept the old version.

Ok great, thanks! And yeah, I'm not registered to take the old MCAT in January ... the new MCAT is definitely more geared towards my strengths, so I'll be waiting until the first test date in April.

I'm almost thinking it would be ridiculous for a school to accept ONLY the 2015 version. What would happen to someone who had to reapply after not getting in this year? Or someone who had to withdraw because of medical reasons, etc.

Unfortunately, there aren't any across the board regulations so it will probably be hit or miss, but i can't imagine that any schools will ONLY accept the 2015 version in next year's cycle... now in 2 cycles? maybe. 3 probably since i think the current version of the MCAT will be void by then... definitely by the 2018-2019 it will be all 2015 version, but maybe the 2017-2018 cycle....
