Hi everyone! 😀 I'm a new member on SDN, hopefully everyone is doing great! I'm in my 2nd year of college...I have been reading these forums and I thought they were pretty interesting and I thought that I might join lol.

>>I have a quick question though...to whoever can answer it...when would be the best time to take the OAT? Because I keep hearing different things and I heard that the best time would be your 3rd year of college. Is that true?

Also...if any of you have any words of wisdom or advice to impart on me...that'd be great!

Take the exam once you've completed the courses that are tested over (Physics I & II, OChem I & II, Gen Chem I & II, Bio I & II, and at least pre-cal) so you have an introduction to all the concepts, then you can just review. That is usually by your 3rd year, depending on how you've arranged your schedule. But keep in mind that you don't want your OAT scores to be over 2 years old by the time the committees review your admissions stuff. 😎 I took the OAT after I graduated from undergrad (since I graduated in Aug, I have a year off until I go into optometry school) but if you feel like you can handle studying for the OAT and school, go for it. Maybe it'll be easier that way since you will have all those subjects fresh on your mind. It's great to already be thinking about this, you'll be on top of your game! Welcome to the forum, it's a great way to meet people just like you. 🙂

hey!! 🙂 i'm a 3rd year in undergrad - and i'm taking the OAT in may. i'll be done with all my prereqs so it'll all still be in the front of my mind. from what i can gather on this site though, a lot of people take it in the fall during the application process but you don't have as much time to retake it if you get low scores, so i personally am taking it right after i finish my 3rd year so that i have plenty of time to retake it if need be.

Thanks you guys! That helped out a lot!!! 🙂
