Hey everyone:

Just want to say hello and let y'all know that I'm now one of the mods for this forum.

Also, I want to give big props to everyone because I've noticed lotsa civility between even dissenting viewpoints. This is a good trend and I'd like to see it continuted, as keeping things civil will go a long way towards making the application process much less stressful.

Keep in mind that this is YOUR forum. If anyone notices someone getting out of line/posting pr0n, etc, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

In addition, I welcome everyone's thoughts regarding things that you would like to see done better/differently within this forum? Comments, suggestions, attaboys or 👎s?

just a couple of questions:

1. why can i not log out the last couple of days?

2. how do i get my e-mail to work from this forum? i entered my address and said i want to be e-mailed yet when one attempts to e-mail me, it says "user chose not to reveal this info" or something to that effect



suggestions:

1. is the link for the lounge posted on this forum in an obvious place? maybe it is, i haven't found it yet but then again i almost never go to the lounge

2. how about links to other sites we use often even if not directly affiliated with your site

3. give us a bigger PM mail box

4. put the date of the threads origin on the list of threads next to the OP's name

5. under "new messages" link the message rather than just saying who posted the last message



i'll think of others even though this is a great site!

1. How to use the search function, or why you shouldn't start a new thread on a question that just slipped to page 2.

2. A description of the MSAR and why it's handy for the "What schools should I apply to?" or "What do you think my chances are?". These may be questions already answered in the FAQ sticky.

Also, I think a lot of newbies treat pre-allo like the lounge since they don't yet have access to said lounge. Too bad! Move those pesky off-topic threads to the lounge!

well that's b/c newbies have no way of knowing there is another place to post on. I knw when i first came here and i started a lounge type thread, i prefaced it by saying, "I can't find where i should be putting this thread since it's really off-topic". My threads were moved and i couldn't even see the responses and one of them i really needed to know the answers in a very timely manner. 🙁

I have gone to edit and checked that..it says I can send and receive e-mails to other posters...that was my problem!

"Remember me" just means if you start to type your name in, it will finish it for you. However when i actually log out it says "all cookies cleared" but then when i go back to the main page it already has me signed in. That never used to happen; therefore i thought maybe something was wrong with the server?????

But if it was working properly will putting it into folders take it out of your box and your total count towards the 100 allowable PMs?

I'd guess you're right. Storage space isn't free and letting members have all the storage they wanted would quickly become untenable. You can donate some money and get more PM space.

why all the closing of threads? doesn't really make sense to me? what's the harm in just leaving them open, if they die out, they'll just start dropping down the page...

7. have a search by topics, even if not exact words

8. have a way to receive responses to your own posts but not necessarily to every post on that thread

Yikes...I think these suggestions need to go to the vendor that made this forum software. I doubt that many of the things you suggested can be configured with the current software.

As far as the list that you posted, PD,....yeah, those are all software issues which I have no control over. Sorry.
