say why does it say preliminary composite score? Are there plans of adjusting it?

I don't know why it say preliminary, I was wondering the same thing. I've heard they are waiting untill fall to so some statistics on the test and they may adjust them then. Don't count on it though. I think it is unfair that my score is lower than years past, at least that is what people are telling me about how the curve used to work. I hope this helps.

Hi guys, good to see some nice scores out there. all the very best for y'll. I have a question and i hope someone can help me out here. I am planning to take NBDE 1 in mid august and am scoring around 60%. When u guys are writing the scores, does the raw scores mean the actual number of correct questions or something else. I understand that complete score is a score scale conversion. If the raw scores mean thats the actual number of correct questions, then i guess I am not ready yet. by the way, How y'all did on practice papers(like released papers/kaplan q bank etc). whts the score u feel ur ready for the final test?
I would really appreciate if someone could answer my doubts and help me decide about my test date.
thanks in advance, good luck to all.

Hi - the raw scores are just that - the number of correct answers out of 100. Then the composite is scaled. Some words of advice - study H&N a ton, hardly study gross - there were maybe 5 or so gross questions on mine, or so it seemed. Don't skimp on histology, once again focus on head and neck. Know your physiology concepts, I recommend the BRS review books, they have really good synopsis and review questions. Study da/occlusion a lot - I think some people forget it's 1/4th of the test and if you do really well it couldl bring up your overall score quite a bit. Just know the basic names/enzymes etc for the cycles and principles behind biochem - it really was way less detailed than I expected it to be. And study micro as much as possible because that was the area I felt worst about even though I did study. Don't rely too much on decks, although they are a good supplement. I used mainly notes from classes taught well and then BRS books for those that weren't - and I got a 90. Don't worry, you'll be fine - good luck!

how much u guys were getting in released papers and kaplan q bank and if someone did crack the nbde. how do u think the percent of correct answers correlate to the final exam?

H&N = head and neck anatomy, sorry about the abbreviation. The BRS series is the Board Review Series by Lippincott, which was available at my university bookstore, and I'm sure online. They were really good for the subjects I mentioned. They're actually targeted for the USMLE, but were great reviews for me as a dental student too. And relatively inexpensive. And like I said, they're good to start with for classes that either had a mountain of long-winded notes (like my physiology class), or classes that weren't taught well (my micro), or if you don't have enough time to go through your notes. But class notes are good because you're familiar with them and you'll remember things learned as you go through them and a lot of people I asked who have done really well relied heavily on their own notes. And again, get your hands on as many released/unreleased tests as you can - there ARE repeated questions. Seriously, dedicate at least two days if not three to just going through old tests. And don't forget, this is just a test, so don't freak out, just try to prepare systematically and you'll be fine!

hi all of you , I got my frien who is about to take part 1 and he wonders what do you people think about rudmans questions ,

Comp = 86
Anat = 71
Micro = 74
Biochem= 75
DA = 79

Lets just hope that if they do re-evaluate the curving of the test it doesn't decrease the Comp score.

Comp = 90
Anat = 82
Biochem = 76
Micro = 80
DA = 94

I'm calling shenanigans on the new scoring. SHENANIGANS!
Actually, I'm okay with my score because I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get into a perio program with a stipend with it, but I'm surprised that with my raw scores, it's not higher than a 90.

Alrighty...here's mine

Overall: 90
Anatomy: 82
Biochem: 76
Path: 80
DA: 94

How I got 90 and the other poster got 90 despite me getting more correct is beyond me. According to the 1998, I would've gotten between a 96-97, slightly more of a hit than the 5 point difference others are noticing (I realize that it is outdated; I'm just a little curious if it held true in more recent years.) Anyway, I guess I'm okay with my score; I hope it'll get me into a perio program with a stipend. I'll be holding my breath for readjusted scores or a conversion between the old scores and the new ones because I'm now a firm believer that it is now way harder to get the high scores. Good luck guys!

Hello everybody,, here is my score
over all comp: 86
Anatomy = 73
Physio/bio = 73
micro/patho=73
dental anatomy = 83
I am not sure if I have to consider re-taking it!🙁

I took the test two years ago and I did better on all the practice tests using that 1998 conversion than I did on the real one too. That makes sense to me but whatever. I hope you all get your scores adjusted higher. Best of luck.

overall = 93😍
DA = 94😍
Biochem/Physio = 86😍
Anatomical S = 86😍
Path/Micro = 84😍😍😱😍

whoa! hey bobino can you tell us what you used to get that high score for path? thank you.

comp 92
DA: 81
Anatomy: 83
Micro: 87
Biochem:94
DA is not hard but for me it is. English is not my native language and some of those DA questions were confusing for me.
Good Luck

comp 83
DA: 85
Anatomy: 70
Micro: 59
Biochem:65

Studied 5 weeks, don't really care to specialize. Did decks, and every old test i could find.

There were alot of questions that I had never seen before, as in not even in the decks or had no clue what they were talking about.

DA is easy, no pictures, straight forward. Several ethics questions, but you have to be a complete ***** not to get them right.

HI
I'm a new member and I would like to have some information about the steps that I need to take to become a dentist in USA and I alreay started with the dental desk and some books , but I appreciate any advice or information I know it would help me and help others. Thanks

Looking at the last 2 scores posted, it almost looks like you get punished for doing well. The differences in their raw scores are so much greater than the difference in standard score.

how so? there are harder tests and easier tests and harder questions and easier questions. You get more points for getting the harder ones and less for getting the easier ones.

Not quite Obliquy, ALL QUESTIONS ARE WORTH THE SAME however there are possibly more than one test and the standard deviations are different for each one which would create an inequality in raw scores to standardized score if you looked at people who took different tests, this has been debated, here's a link to the thread:

Overall:95
anatomy: 92
biochem: 92
path: 93
DA: 96

Whew... scaled score's pretty darn close to the raw...

According to DREDAY in the post you have linked to (see #2), and presumming the posted information from the ADA is correct, then all questions are not worth the same.

Your raw score's are ridiculously good. 99 in all 4 sections by the '98 chart I think. What did you use for preparation and how much time? Any general suggestions?

Hi Fortinosamano;

Congratulations for a good score. Just wanted to know are you Foreign Trained dentist trying for an advanced standing program or US regular DDS student.

Thanks

For those of you that have taken the test, do you feel that the new "clinical senario" questions were harder/easier/no different than the classic style questions. Is there any way to study for them or are they just wild card questions?
