Okay my major right now is pre dental but im really debating whether i should switch to dental hygiene.
Im a freshman in college and the school i go to only offers associate degrees in dental hygiene and pre-dental.
I'm 100% sure that i want to go into the dental field but im just not sure if im cut out to get my dmd
My cousin currently goes to MCG and she is currently getting her dmd and she told me it is V E R Y hard and stressful but i want it so bad because not only is there pay way higher than a dental hygientist but i think there job is way better so basically should i change my major? is it worth changing because i heard alot of dental hygientist end up going back to school to get there dmd anyways and also since my school only offers a associates degree in pre-dental and dental hygiene should i even be in the dental field or should i do like a biology major

In my opinion you should major in pre-dental over hygiene. You are going to need to attend a 4 year university and your degree is ultimately going to depend on what that university offers.

Many students just go with a basic science degree like biology others major in spanish, business, computer programming, etc... It really doesn't matter all that much as long as you get the prerequisites completed for dental school. 👍

If you're absolutely passionate about dentistry (I suggest you do some shadowing/volunteering to find out!), then the fact that dental school is hard won't hold you back. Everything in life is hard but if you love it, you will work for it and succeed. Best of luck!

Don't let your cousin scare you like that. Its hard + stressful and expensive but there are still 12,000 people dying to get into dental school. Why? Because they like the pain and the reward is much more worth it at the end.

Trying hard and achieve your ultimate goal are what you are.

Btw, there is no major called Predent.

Go for it! Become a dentist. But try to be a little more confident. I know dental school may sound and be intense, stressful, and even scare you... but one can handle the intensity of dental school IF one acquires good time management, is serious about it, and puts 100% effort in. You can do it. Go for the career you love most 🙂

Just because its hard and stressful, you are going to run away?...

Where is the passion?
Where is the ambition?
Where is your determination?

Are you going to disappoint me?

Do you want a challenging career that allows you to be in the driver's seat or a stress-free career that's tied to another individual's decisions?

There are no right answers. Just what fits YOU best.

BTW - if you live in Georgia, hygienists are paid decently. In other states, like Alabama, they are paid dirt. Depends on the laws governing them.

For me, I would HATE being a hygienest. I would be bored out of my mind!

But, my sister-in-law just graduated from MCG's Dental School. She was a hygienist before that (the only one in her class, I might add... so not as common as you might think). Now 3 mo. out she wishes she was still a hygenist. She's super laid back and is struggling with the stress of being a dentist. Others may call that stress a challenge.

So, you decide for yourself 🙂

For some reason I find this post really funny.
