New Score Report/Curve

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received Step 1 results 3/13/07, took test on 2/6/07.

I received a Comp Score of 89---there is no individual scores, just a breakdown of your raw scores and the national average below. Also, I am putting the 98 curve at the end for a comparison.

Subject My Raw Score---Reported national average---1998 curve
Anatomy------75/100-----------------66.2-------------------------91
Biochem------78/100-----------------64.2-------------------------94
Path/mic------83/100-----------------64.9-------------------------98
DAO-----------87/100-----------------74.6-------------------------92
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Totals---------323/400---------------269.9

I am a 2nd year US dental student and took the test early. A little dissapointed. I was getting (81-84% raw) on my last 3 practice released exams (1998,2003,pilot), and based on the 1998 curve, those scores would've been 94-96s. I think my raw scores are reflected of what I expected but not too satisfied with the curve. Maybe, I let the 98 scores scew my expectations, but the new curve appears harder. Overall, glad it's over and don't think I will try again even though I plan on doing OMS.

Studying
First Aid and Decks to supplement. Did every released exam. about 5 good weeks of 2-4 hours/day. Also, I felt it was like the pilot.

GOOD LUCK

Congratulations you did it very well!!!! and thank you for the usefull information

I wanna know which style did you have?Your test was like zdentist ,or you took the easy one?

I just read zdentist post and it does seem I had a similar experience. Didn't know an easier test existed, and are their scores back? Mine was what I expected, except a few weird questions. I found that every old exam would have these odd q's too. I would agree that their are less repeat questions, but by no means would I not do the released exams. Again my scores in each subject were on par with all my practice test. I was scoring raws of 75-80 in Anatomy and biochem, 85-88 in DAO and I was always strong in patho/micro with 80-86. I can honestly say; given another chance, I would not change anything about my studying except take the old exam instead of dealing with this new curve.

Also, just got off the phone with a guy who took the test with me at the same testing center and he was terribly disappointed. We obviously had the same test that day. He had an overall raw of 73.5 and his Comp Score was 85. He appeared to be a guy who invested 4-6 months and was making a little better than me on the released exams from our discussions.

I think with a new format everything will take time to fall into place. Maybe, the scores are going to change more than the test. I will be ticked if my fellow classmates take the test this summer and get a more lenient curve. Anyone know how they got this new curve? Is it projected, based on the early takers or from research with the pilot? I do remember reading something off their website that the curve was only based on 1st timers enrolled in US dental schools. But realy, how many of these people can there be at this time of the year.

I know there was another version ,but I don't know about their result.I have studied for a year and I was quiet confident ,but when I took it I felt like maybe I should have done the old old tests ,but now that I saw the curve...
I think with this new version you did great, and I think the scores are not like before. It can't be just you and me,every body had the same problem.
GOOD LUCK

Just wishful thinking. That would be my score if they used the released 1998 curve and graded each segment separately. Interestingly dental dork reports a COMP of 88, but he says he made raws of 73s except for the DAO section in which he got 85. Still waiting to see if he puts his breakdown online b/c that would me that it took me 18-20 questions just to improve to 89????

Also, at the top of my report it says preliminary report????? does this mean subject to change or is that on everyones report, old and new test format??? Please let me know if others have this on their reports too.

i dont understand why your comp score is 89 when all of you sub scores are in the 90's.

sub scores are in 90's on 1998 curve. So it is an indication that the test takers have become competitive. viva dentistas!

Based on drock explanation, seems the bell curves shift to the left and difference between the old an new is about 4-5 points, It seems more similar to Part II scores now..I am not sure.

You are already late for 2007 and have enough time for 2008. So retake!👍
