Hi,

I'm new to the pre-med section of SDN. I was originally Pre-Dental, but now i'm a little interested in MD/DO. I had some questions:

1. After taking the MCAT's, do people apply to MD and DO schools all at the same time, or do the schools not like this? For example, I know dental schools do not like seeing a student that has already applied to med school.

2. How much of a disadvantage are you at taking the MCAT in August, instead of April?

3. I have the Princeton Review books -- I dont want to take the class. However, I would like extra practice tests. Are there any places where I can buy just these tests. I heard Princeton Review is a little harder than the real MCAT. How true is this?

4. Do med schools normally give preference to the in-state residents? Or is it just like dental schools where the privates dont care, but the state schools do?

Well that's enough for now. Thanks. 😀

That depends on the rest of your app & how much better you'll do in August than in April. While there is some debate, April seems to be generally regarded as the best choice. There are a number of threads on this subject which a search should turn up.

You can buy practice tests from the AAMC Summary of MCAT Practice Test Options Check out the buy/sell forum here or ebay for other test prep materials.

Why do you say that?

What more clear evidence could you present that the individual didn't really want to be a dentist from the start. Rather, they are applying as a result of their inability to gain acceptance to medical school.

It seems pretty straightforward and logical to me.

I see that I somehow cut out part of my first response.
People apply to both at the same time.
