Surgery is good too, but only if you can see both the clinical and operative parts. Don't do it for the "oos and ahhs" of the OR, do it to learn how they comfort the patient who is staring a serious operation in the face.

I shadowed an orthopedic surgeon for two days, one in clinic and one in the OR. I thought it was a valuable learning experience.
