NHSC SCHOLARSHIP & RESIDENCY

I was recently asked by a prospective med student if I thought the NHSC would help her get into X primary care residency. I had no idea what to tell her. So, does anyone know if the NHSC scholarship helps to move you up the list for primary care (IM, OB, FP, PEDS)?

I would guess there may be some advantage to getting into one of the rural track FP programs, since you have already committed yourself to doing underserved work.

I can't imagine it would add any benefit at getting am IM or OBGYN spot at a highly competitive program, especially if it is a program which is known for producing subspecialists and not primary care IMs (or OBs)
