Hey All-

I was thinking about doing NIH summer program for medical students. I was wondering what you guys thought of this program. I was mainly thinking of concentrating on clinical research as that has a lot bigger chance of publication. I have done basic science research before and feel that experience in clinical research would be good.

I was told by a few people that it's better to do research with people at my home institution over the summer rather than the NIH. That way, I form a relationship with the doctors I'll see in third year and I can continue the project into next year if I don't complete it over the summer. Is this true? Did any of you do the NIH program?

It's a really good program. I applied last year and was accepted but chose to do research at the Mayo Clinic instead of NIH. If you plan to do research in your career, I think it is worth while, not to mention you get paid for it.
