has anyone here done the summer internship at NIH for pre-doc students? I REALLY want to do it--I just need to know what they are looking for, when to apply, etc.... Is it really that hard to get? Any advice you have I would greatly appreciate.

I had to turn down an NIH summer fellowship because of the low pay. $1700 for 10 weeks in the DC area? Forget it, I wasn't about to live out of a cardboard box. But it would have been a great opportunity, and if the finances work out for you, then I say go for it!
