Has anyone taken part in the NIH summer research/internship program in Washington?? I'm currently a sophomore and trying to figure out how to spend my summer. Would this internship look better on a medschool application than a summer service trip to south america? Any feedback on the program or other comments on beneficial ways to spend this summer woule be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

I did the NIH program in Bethesda. I'm not sure which of your two options would look better, but I'd say hurry up on the NIH application if you are going to do it. Spots go really fast since applications started in Nov. You have to take a proactive approach too at this point and email individual PIs about your interest and not wait for somebody to email you.

Washington DC was fun and Labwork is labwork.

they don't provide housing or transportation, so it might be a long commute everyday. but if you have shelter in dc, the nih program definitely sounds good.
