'No Acceptances Yet' Club

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what is worse is getting invited to the 2nd visit day while on the WL and loving the school after going...it'll make it that much worse if I dont get it. 🙁
How sad.

Spin😀 😀

I know e-spin, talk about torture, some of the interviews were bad enough because it just seemed like these schools are made for you. I couldn't image having it shoved down my throat again and not know if i was getting in or not.

It is with the greatest pleasure that I withdraw my membership from this club!

Finally, after three application cycles, I got the call from Tulane yesterday.

I wish all NAYers the best of luck this year. Persistence definitely pays off. And hopefully I'll get to meet some of you in August in New Orleans!

hawaiian bruin, YOU RULE!!! yay!!!
you must be sooooo stoked. tulane seemed like such a great place to spend your med school years.

just curious...what was your secret to getting in? did you write lots of letters? call them up? or did they just offer the acceptance out of the blue? thanks.

congrats H.B, really glad for you, wow 3 application cycles, you deserve it!

Holy cow, dude!! Perseverence pays off, let that be a lesson to us all!!!! Woo-hoo! Congrats!!!!

Much Luck in Naw'lins!!!!
Spin😀

AWSOME!!! You earned it!
Good luck...You Rock.

Pass on the vibe to the rest of us...while you exit our club you will not be forgotted.

hey way to go!!!!!!!!

great job on sticking with it for 3 cycles!!!

Thanks guys! There's actually a little story that goes along with it. So at 2:30 yesterday, I hop in the shower for 5 minutes. Come out- there's a message on my cell phone, "This is the Tulane office of admissions, it is very important that you call us back." So, weak in the knees, I call back, only to get a message saying "Sorry, we're out to a meeting until 3:30, please call back then." Call back at 3:30, same story. Same message goes on until 4:00, when it changes to; "The office of admissions is now closed. Our hours are 9 to 4 blah blah..."

It was a gutwrenching night, to say the least. I called them first thing in the morning and got the good news!

Lola- I absolutely loved the school when I was there too. One of my interviewers told me to e-mail Dr. Pisano every so often with updates, which I did, and I also sent in a strong letter of intent saying that I would withdraw all other applications if accepted there. I know the price is steep, but since my interest is in EM, Charity should be a GREAT place to rotate. MD/MPH in 4 years is another big plus. But the bottom line is that everyone was so cool there, from students to faculty, that it'll be worth the (staggering) debt.

So stoked!

ha ha ha. you must have been flipping out last night!! aaaaaah. i can only imagine the anxiety that might cause 🙂.

wooooooo hoooooooo!!!

i was afraid you'd been contacting them and had written a letter of intent. bleh. i just can't write a letter of intent in good faith, because i would choose uci or ucd over any private school. this is my problem for gtown as well, another school that i *might* be able to get into with a letter of intent.

*sheepishly pulls off lurker mask*

I know I'm not supposed to be in here anymore, but I lurk to see who is leaving...

Congrats, HB, you seriously rock. 🙂 Your persistence for 3 cycles has really paid off, and you will make the kind of dedicated physician that we all should aim to be.

lolololola, i have faith that UCI or UCD will work out for you. I really do have a good feeling. And then you'll be paying in-state tuition, you cow, while I pay a mortgage on my debts during residency. 😛

Lola- I know what you mean. I had debated the same thing, because for the last two years, the University of Hawaii, my state school, had been my number one choice. But after two years of fruitless waitlisting there (and I just found out that I was waitlisted there again this year), I decided to play the odds, and do whatever I could to give myself the best chance of getting in. Dropping that LOI in the mailbox was a little hard, but with the 3rd waitlist in 3 years from UH, I'm sure glad I did!

You couldn't go wrong with e-mailing a letter of interest to Dr. Pisano- as much as I hate kissing a$$, it seems to work sometimes.

Wow 3 cycles!!
Congrats!!

Hawaiian Bruin, congrats! It's reassuring to see that your sacrifice was worth it! When you get a chance, please share with us what you think made the difference this time (i.e. did you have new activities, LORs, essays, mcat, applied earlier, etc.).

Congratulations, HawaiinBruin

I am glad that someone is getting out if this club. I don't know about anyone else, but I really don't want to be a member anymore. So far I have had four interviews, with three waitlists. I am hoping, wishing, and praying, praying, praying, that the last school that I am waiting on will be an outright acceptance. And then the waiting will be over and I can get out of this stupid club.

one week to 5/15. hang on everyone.

YAYAYAYAY HB!!!!!!!!!!! let's here it for perseverance!!!!!!

I called ECU yesterday. They've made a decision. However, they're waiting to mail the decisions and they *hope* to let me know by May 15. But they already know-- they're just not telling me or mailing anything yet.

I think this might fall under the definition of cruel and unusual punishment.

moskeeto, your avatar scares me a little

Congratulations Hawaiian Bruin!!!!! Persistence really does pay off. I am so happy for you!!!! Good luck at Tulane and have fun in New Orleans! Aloha!

Thanks everyone!

Nefertari- I did have new LOR's, took a couple new classes, improved my essay, and applied to more schools (didn't even apply farther than the west coast the first two years because I was a naive idiot, and thought I could get into my state school in Hawaii without trouble). Didn't feel the need to retake the MCAT with a 34, but my GPA (3.19) was probably the biggest factor in it taking three tries to get in.

Now that it's over, I'm actually glad it happened like this. The first year I didn't get in, it gave me a chance to work another year as a ski patroller and EMT up in the SoCal mountains, which was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The second year I didn't get in, it gave me a year to come live in San Francisco with my girlfriend, and since we'd been doing the long distance thing, it really helped in maintaining our relationship (esp with four more years of LDR ahead). It also gave me a chance to find what I'm now sure is the right school for me.

Kinda makes you think- everything happens for a reason. More and more, I'm starting to believe that.

NAYers- don't give up. There's still another couple months of waitlist movement season, and I'm hoping that everyone will be evicted from this club soon! May 15 is a week away...

Congrates, Hawaiian Bruin!

I'm glad that you got the school of your choice. You deserve it after three cycles!

Hey, my avatar only reflects whats truely inside of you. Its kind of like that cave that luke sees himself as darth vader in Star Wars, you know what I'm talking about. Sweet tea, I think you've got some inner demons you need to deal with.

Don't call her sweat tea. man. that is really gross.

ST - sorry to hear you are being jerked along like that - hopefully it is all worth it.

I'm happy to announce that I am also out of this club. I've been accepted to Finch! Have hope guys! I have the most checkered academic record of them all and have been told by countless people that I would never make it!😛

Good luck to the rest of you!

Congrats Jumpu!!!!!

It feels good to make it, especially when people tell you can't, doesn't it?!

Congratulations, Jumpu!!!!

I know that you were so worried that you hadn't gotten any interviews. Then you got one and you got accepted. What a great story!

get out of here!!! 😀

 congratulations Jumpu!!!!!!!!!!

Jumpu, I saw your post and remembered that they said this Tuesday some decisions would be made. So I got up the courage to call. And he said I was accepted! I'm so happy. But totally paranoid that he heard my name wrong. And will remain totally paranoid until I get the letter (or don't get the letter).

I just left this club today. Just got into ECU medicine. What a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow thats great news Polar Girl. Are you going to be a classmate of mine at Finch?

Well, I really really liked Loyola. So if I get off the waitlist, I'll go there. If not, we very well could be classmates at Finch. 🙂

I'm so happy for you!!!!!!!!!! YAYAYAYAAYAYAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think i've run out of exclamation points. 😉

Hi all.

I signed up for the club about 12 pages back, and haven't had time to keep up on things.

Anyway, congrats to all who've finally gotten in, and GOOD LUCK to everyone still waiting.

I've browsed the last few pages and, though we're all members of the same club, I've felt a little discouraged since I'm only on TWO wait lists, and praying like mad that one will pan out. Oh how I don't want to write another personal statement!

Good luck, again, and thanks for the support group.

Wow, three people out of the club in just a few days! That is great. Congrats everyone!

I am still very much in the club. My little package that I had to pick up earlier this week ended up just being a B-day present from my brother. Gee...doesn't my family know they should warn me before sending anything that I have to pick up at the post office!!!! I was all excited for a day over nothing.

I was just wondering if anyone knows from past experience how waitlists generally move. Do a lot of people get off before May 15, from everyone dropping schools before the May 15 deadline, or do most people get off from other people getting off their more preferred school's waitlist.

I am just feeling stressed that May 15 is less than a week away and there are still 13 more people that have to not go to UofA before I am in. It feels like a lot and the fact that only one person pulled out this week seems like a bad omen.

Any thoughts?

Hey guys I'm a lurker. I just love how everyone is so supportive. I just sent a withdrawal letter to Albany (sorry not UofA) but I'm thinking that a lot of movement may happen after May 15.

Best of luck. You guys are great.
Congrats to everyone who got in recently.

I am on 5 waitlists right now and it is terrible...worse is a few are from schools I did not expect interviews at and schools that tend to have little movement like Pritzker and Mt Sinai...Einstein puts like 600 people on the list (so I'm not that special...) and Loyola is probably my greatest chance of getting in at this point. Penn State is also a probable waiting list, but the ruralness scares me...

NYMC is my last waitlist (I expect them by now), so 6 waitlists soon enough...it is crazy to be on so many, but like I said some don't have much movement so it's risky...I prefer Siani and pritzker over Loyola and Einstein, but any of these four would make me happy to be there and the others would just let me be grateful for becoming a doctor.

Good luck to all of us! BTW, most movement is AFTER May 15th, schools need time to see who is dropping and THEN go to the "Lists" I know SPECIFICALLY that Loyola is VERY QUICK in waitlist issues; Einstein, very slow, Pritzker, slow, Siani, slow, and Penn State likes to use the word "hold" too much, so slow...If anyone else is on these 6 waitlists PM me...we COULD be future classmates (and it kills the time too...)

Peace out Oh Patient Ones...😛

Good luck to everyone that's gotten in. Let's keep the exodus going.

hang in there, lab-rat 21. i am also on 5 waitlists (tulane, drexel, pitt, gtown, loyola) and am still waiting to hear back from ucd and uci, though i already know uci will be a post-interview rejection or waitlist.

On one hand, I have not had any post-interview rejections; out of 6 interviews that is great. (I'm just adding my NYMC as a waitlist, btw). But I do not have that safety school reassurance at all...I'm on the edge of doing all this again next year and I really would not like that.

I am going to just stop thinking about anything until May 22...it takes like a week at some schools for waitlists to move...maybe before Memorial Day I have good news...🙁

Lab-Rat 21, you sound like me. I am on 3 waitlists and waiting to hear from my fourth and final school. I know that it is not over yet, but I think about it so much that it drives me crazy. I am trying to relax and be comforted in the fact that May 15 is five days away. I dread doing this again next year, but I will if I have to.

We need to pep up people, it is May, and we are still in the game!🙂

May 15th is just days away! Hopefully, we will all have some good news soon!🙂 Until then, I will be frantically stalking the mailman and the phone for any glimpse of good news! I am waiting very impatiently!

omgomgomgomg
i tearfully withdraw my membership to this club - just got the letter from East TN!
thank you for helping me get through the past couple agonizing months. i really didn't think it was going to happen for me this year (and was really bummed that my MCAT scores are expired) - and i really needed something like the board to help me keep things in perspective. thank you.
may 15th is slowly but surely coming. 😳 *sending waitlist moving vibes* i'll be hoping and praying for you guys. 🙂 😍 🙂

medical123 -
have you heard anything from meharry yet? i hope you get some good news very very soon!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

congratulations polar girl and manta. glad to hear this club is getting smaller

Glad to see things are moving before 5/15! Congrats, guys! Have fun celebrating this weekend.

Congrats on the East Tennessee acceptance!  No, I haven't heard anything from Meharry since I got the Acceptance Range letter about 3 weeks ago. I am hoping that I will get some good news next week. I have heard that Meharry's waitlist moves quite a bit, so I am keeping my fingers crossed! I have another school I have yet to hear back from and I am still on the waitlist at yet another one, so I am hanging around this club for a little longer!
