How badly does it hurt your chances of getting accepted if you know you won't have your bachelors degee completed by the end of summer. I only applied to schools that don't require a degree, but they all PREFER one. I'm a 3.36 overall, 3.05 sci, with a 21 AA. Do most of you guys have your degrees completed. Some advice please...thanks

i'm in the same boat. i won't have my degree by next summer either. but i've still been to two interviews already with a third one coming up and no one has made me feel that it is going to hold me back. BUT they all asked me why i wasn't going to graduate and if i had a legitimate reason. they wanted to make sure that i wasn't just trying to squeeze in and get out of another year of school. i think that's what everything comes down to... if you have a discrepency on your application you have to have a good reason behind it. in the end you have to do your best and let them make their decision.

Keep in mind that the majority of accepted students in at dental schools, including schools that "prefer degrees," have degrees. There are many other students that have greater than or equal scores than you, and also hold Bachelor's, Master's, and PhDs. Competition is stiff, so I suggest you finish a degree if you can.

You can apply and gain acceptance without a degree, however, d-schools will probably want you to have one by the time you enter your first semester.

I probably won't have my degree by the start of school next year. I didn't put on my application that I would have a BS either. I've interviewed at two schools and neither of them have asked me about it. I have another two inteviews and I'll talk to them about it. One of them is UNLV and Dr. Brownstein came and spoke at our school just recently. Some of the students asked him about it and he said that if they didn't have a degree, they'd better have something that made them stand out above the rest. If it came down to two people having the same numbers and one had the degree and the other didn't, it would be a tie-breaking factor. But it seemed that if you had other things to compensate, you could still make it.

Schools really don't care. Atleast the ones that I interviewd at. Why would they. There are those out there that really won't except you if you don't, but most really just don't care.

Those that do get accepted without degrees usually have something that makes them stand out - like a really high GPA.

To be honest with you I think your chances of getting in without a degree are pretty slim. Your science GPA is very weak and I'm guessing schools are going to want to see some additional upper level science work to be sure that you can handle the work load in dental school.

I'm not trying to discourage you; I just think you would be better off saving your application money for next year. Just my opinion.
