I know many here have their problems w EMTALA but active labor transfers are dangerous as the Portuguese are finding out tragically. Perhaps more to the story (eclampsia? PE?) but highlights what EMTALA got right.

Folks don't realize how restrictive "universal" healthcare is in Europe. It's for citizens and not really anyone else. We may have a terrible maternity mortality rate here, but this lady might well have survived. Tragic.
