But no rejections either. I've gotten the "application complete" emails. How long does it generally take for an application to be reviewed?

I'm a little nervous b/c people seem to be getting interviews and taking all the good spots!

edit to this: just got a message from BU... didn't get an interview. Oh well. Of course I would get a response right after making this thread. lol.

Did you apply late? I remember a thread by you dealing that subject. If you applied late, you are gonna be look at late. It is just simple fact. Just hang in there!

One more thing, you should have applied more broadly. You only applied to 10 schools. That will def decrease your chances (it does not mean that you wont get it..you might, but applying boradly would have increased your chances).

Review time is going to depend on the school and how late your application was.

That being said, this time last year I had no interviews, (I got my first invite in NOVEMBER) but I'm happy with how the whole thing turned out. Don't lose hope yet.

I actually applied to 15... MDApps is just not letting me update the list, for some reason.

I applied a little later...and I didn't get my first interview until Mid october, 2nd in the beginning of November, and then the remaining 6 interview invites were spread between early Dec to mid Jan.

I'm in a kind of similar situation, except that I'm not complete yet anywhere. I've sent in most of my secondaries, with a couple left, and I anticipate that my letters will reach their destinations next week, if USPS is on time. (I don't want to think that some of them could get lost in the mail, but that's perfectly possible). The worst thing right now is checking the interview thread, cause I get all panicky from seing how much people have advanced in the process, while I'm still stuck at the start.

Doesn't sound too late to me... seeing how we're in mid-October already.

I am in the same boat. I hope to be complete everywhere by early November, so hopefully I'll get my first interview in December. I am also worried about my chances seeing how far along others are, but hopefully everything will work out in the end.

There are a lot of schools who haven't even started sending out invites yet, so don't lose hope!

Don't despair. I applied later also, and, while I don't remember the specifics, I think November/December seems about right for when I found out about interviews. Even though I was really close to the deadlines on some secondaries, I still got plenty of interviews - 6 out of the 10 schools I applied to.

:luck:

what were your stats?

Good (although not as good as I thought at the time!), but verrry minimal clinical volunteering/shadowing. 3.8 GPA, 37 MCAT, ~3 years of research between 2 labs, including an independent project. That was a few years ago now, so, take it with a grain of salt, of course.

I didn't get very many acceptances, which I blame on the lack of clinical experience and mediocre interviews. I don't think answered the "Why MD" questions very well given my lack of experience. I ended up matriculating in a good program that I like very much, and it all has all worked out great (at least so far!). 🙂

When I applied last year, my interviews all took place between December and March, so it's not time to lose hope just yet.

That being said, I also applied with a 32 on the MCAT (although my GPA was a bit higher). Based on my interview experience, I would say that a few of the schools you are waiting on are not likely to look too kindly on that score, so don't be surprised if you get a few more rejections before you start getting interviews (that's how it went with me). Give it time.

Two rejections and two interviews so far, so I think that's a good ratio right now; esp for my stats. And, like others have said, you really only need one acceptance.

I'm actually preferring later interviews right now, because I'm going to be missing labs and scrambling to make up coursework, as it is. Winter break and my light schedule next semester will make dealing with interviews much easier.

Along those lines, how much do stats matter once you get to the interview? I mean, they're obviously interested enough to merit talking to you. As long as you interview well, is the raw stats part of the application generally over?

That really depends on the school. I had some schools tell me that once I interviewed, my performance at the interview would essentially determine whether I got in or not. Interviewers/deans at other schools told me that I interviewed phenomenally, but that my MCAT would probably hurt me. True to their word - those were the schools where I was ultimately waitlisted.

Your experience may be different than mine, but I would say that with a 32, an interview invite doesn't quite put you in the clear. You need to make up for that score with the best interviews you can, and at some (but unfortunately not all) schools, that should be enough.

I guess that's about what I was expecting.

Here's to having a good interview: :help:

Lucky, I have similar stats to yours and I still haven't gotten an interview yet, 3 rejections, and holding at OHSU for a letter till they review me (proff is currently awol 😡).

Good luck with that interview, if MD/PhD interviews are like any of the other interviews that I've had in my life, then it shouldn't be bad at all if you're honest, straightforward, and exude confidence in your ability, and I mean exude like there should be a stream of confidence on the floor from the moment you walk.

I also have no interviews yet. 0/2 at the moment (washu & cornell). I'm getting anxious

I don't know much about Illinois but I think that you should probably expand your list of schools since the others all seem ultracompetitive. I haven't had any luck from half of the schools on that list even though I turned in everything early and I also have great stats like yours. Good luck!

I'd have applied more broadly if I were you, dmargul, but then again, I would also have knock-out stats if I were you 😛 props

I think you'll be alright. Best of luck to you.

I'm afraid that I may not have applied broadly enough, but my backup plan is a 1 year masters program at Michigan that I am guaranteed admission to. If i don't get in, then I can get a masters and reapply.

I really want a school with a good biomedical engineering program and a good medical school, which unfortunately limits my options to only the best medical schools.

Also apparently, some schools are not showing up on my page for some reason.

I also applied to Northwestern, Harvard,Cornell,University of Michigan

Well I got an interview to Columbia, so i'm no longer stressing out so much. Obviously an interview doesn't guarantee acceptance, but it feels a lot better knowing that at least one school is interested. Plus I got a "we are still considering you" email form michigan.

Does applying late to MD/PhD programs really have that much of an impact? I mean, their applicant pools are so small that even if you apply later you would get a very fast review turnover. I sent in the secondary to UMASS in November and got an interview invite two weeks later. Ironically I was complete at Temple early august, but received the cold shoulder (haven't heard from them yet...). I am even a PA resident 😡

Hey Chessodoc, could you give me the date you were complete at UMass and what date you got the interview invite? I was complete there the first week of this month, and I am waiting to here back from them. It has been just about two weeks for me.

Hey, has anyone heard from UCSF yet? I haven't received a secondary.😕

Same here. I was just assuming I got rejected. I'm waiting for the official rejection letter, but it still hasn't come 3 months after I applied. Maybe we're on some sort of a secondary wait list? I don't know...

Maybe I should try calling someone?

I think they're still giving out secondaries; I got one only last week after being complete for 12 weeks.

I did call their office a few weeks ago, but the lady who spoke to me (although she was polite) couldn't really tell me anything.

I'm in the same boat for UCSF (no secondary, but not rejection either).

Does UCSF have rolling admissions? Have they started interviewing?

No rolling admissions for UCSF, but you have to pass the MD screen first, and they are pretty backed up right now. Interview has started since October.

Does the MD screen extend beyond the decision to send a secondary? Or are we turned over to the MSTP office once we've got a secondary?

Once you pass the MD screen, you get sent to the MSTP office. If they like you, you get a MSTP secondary, otherwise just a MD secondary. MD and MSTP admissions are parallel at UCSF, but The MD committee always has veto power over the MSTP council. This means if they reject you for interview, you won't get an interview for MSTP, and if they reject you for acceptance, you'll be rejected even if the MSTP council initially accepted you for MSTP🙁 Such cases are rare, but they do happen.
