My application was complete in September. I have not heard anything from any schools? Does this mean that I should lose hope for this application cycle since I have not even been interviewed yet? Is anyone else in my same position? Or is there anyone that interviewed later than this an still got in?

It depends on when each school does their last interviews. Some end in March, some go until May and June. You should consult each school's admissions office for details. This is very late in the cycle, but a few people on here have been accepted after a late interview. You should probably think about the next cycle at this point, though. Interviews this late are usually for the waiting list.

Would you mind sharing your stats? This is like my biggest fear!

You may want to call the admin office and make sure they received all of your stuff (secondaries, LOR, ect.).

Also, you could send them an update telling them what you have been doing since Sept. and maybe get a late interview. Good luck!

You need to contact the office of admissions if you haven't already. I thought that I could get away without it and I was sorely mistaken. I found that my application was held up for a number of stupid reasons, and all that it took was simple clarification for my application to be considered 'complete'.

Oh and even though they say you are complete online doesn't necessarily mean you are! That happened to me a couple times, so shoot them an e-mail and double check it.

My hold ups were mostly for letters of recommendation.

When the AMCAS/AACOMAS says your application is complete, you still need to call each school individually to double check, just because the amcas/aacomas portion is complete doesnt mean your secondary is or that all letters were recieved, etc. Once you have verified that your application is offically complete at each school, then about a month or so after that you should call again to check up on your status. This helps to refresh your name in the giant heap of applications. I know if I was on the ap committee, I would much rather interview someone who takes the initiative to keep checking up (w/o being extreme). When YOU call THEM, it shows that you are truely interested in attending their school, which they always love to know!

I wouldnt totally give up hope, but most schools have filled almost all of their classes and so you'd just be interviewing for a wait-list spot. This is still OK since many schools take a good number of class spots from their wait-list!

You need to call each school ASAP to find out your status!!

You did submit secondaries, right? Just making sure. 😉

Why did you wait this long to start questioning this? You should have been contacting the schools MONTHS ago; you may have shot yourself in the foot.

I hope you'll be able to figure things out. Good luck!

Obviously I will just be echoing everyone else, but I just wanted to stress that this needs to happen quickly. While many schools do interview into May, those interviews were in large part scheduled months before (like now). The window for being invited to interview is closing very quickly, and the fact that you have heard nothing at all more suggests a problem with your app and less with a rejection. However, all we are doing is speculating. Give them a call and good luck!🙂

Check out my Friday the 13th thread, you may very well find answers all come at once.

I have contacted each school a couple times to check on the status of my application. They would all say " you are complete, and your application has been sent to be reviewed and has been placed on hold after review by the committee".. I do not know what else I am allowed to ask them. Should I say "Will you be offering any more interviews?" I am not really sure what else I can ask them besides " What is the status of my application?"

What else am I allowed to say?

My stats are 3.65 Cum. and 3.54 science
MCAT: 8 bio, 7 physical, 8 verbal
The rest of my application is not too shabby ..great LORs and Clinical experiences

You can ask if they are offering any more interviews; if you haven't heard anything and interview season is over, then theres your answer right there. Mt. Sinai couldn't tell me that I've been rejected, but they could tell me that they aren't conducting any more interviews. HMM I wonder if I still got a chance.

I got some information out of a few schools by asking "Can I check to see if an application has been reviewed yet?" Some schools won't tell you anything, but a few might.

what schools did you apply to....if you applied to the the DO schools with the highest mcat and gpa averages that may be your reason but if you applied broady it is strange you have not heard back......your mcat is low but ur gpa makes up for it

I applied rather broadly. UNECOM, PCOM, AT Still Kirksville, KCUMB, Oklahoma State, Rocky Vista. It is rather bizarre.
I am pretty much losing hope for this cycle. Any advice on what I should do with my year off. I was leaning toward more clinical experience because I have already missed most deadlines to apply to graduate schools..

Well KCUMB only sends interviews to those that are pretty much accepted. Oklahoma State wants instate applicants, i think almost 85% or something are IS, PCOM and Kirksville are very competitve schools and that 23 might have hurt you there. And i dont know anything about rocky vista and UNECOM. If i were you i would retake the mcat (your gpa is solid for those schools) get a 26+ and reapply the very first day next year. You should apply to more schools, and be more active next year

Check your email's spam filter. My girlfriend just applied for her PhD in psychology. The school sent her an email asking for an interview; however, she used her school's email addressed which automatically sent the interview invite to spam.

It kinda seemed like PCOM had a preference for in state even though they're private so if you're not in state then that combined with your MCAT could be why you didn't hear from them. From what I can see on the boards it seems like Rocky Vista is trying to be competitive so your MCAT could've hurt you with them as well. I agree with time2go that you should retake your MCAT and try again next cycle. Your GPA is great so if you can get your MCAT up a bit higher you should have much better luck next cycle.

I don't know about most of those schools, but KCOM said on 3/6 that they only had 4 interview days left and I'm assuming the last 2 are next week since this week is their spring break. So unfortunately if you haven't heard from them yet then you're probably not going to 🙁

As for the year off, if you can work in a clinical setting that would be great. Otherwise, try to find a job that would in some way build skills that would benefit you as a doctor even if it's something in communications. At the same time, keep up with volunteering or something like that so you're still involved in the medical profession. The biggest thing is schools will ask if you've applied there before so you're going to want some good things to say about why you're a better candidate in the next cycle. Waiting another year is tough but at least you can hopefully save up some money in the meantime.

its gotta be the MCAT. there is no way around it, a 23 is very low even for DO schools. hate to say it but it looks like you are just going to have to take it again. best of luck.

I wouldn't have high hopes. Start studying for that MCAT again and bring it up.

Agreed seems like most DO schools want to see At least a 25, even though students with lower sores have been accepted. Getting a 27 or higher will open a lot of doors for you. 25 might do it... But risky considering how competitive DO schools have become!

I was accepted to a few schools with a 22 MCAT...but I have pretty good credentials, so I'm pretty sure that played a big role.

You also didn't apply late like some. With lower stats, it's best to apply as early as possible, when they have many/most/all seats still available. With time, there are decreased seats and increased competition for them. It's a bit musical chairs-like.

Congrats! Let us know how it goes! Good luck, make sure you look over the interview feedback on here to prep for it.

I think it's definitely the MCAT score that's hurting you. Your GPA and sci GPA are both higher than mine by .2.

My MCAT score is 10 points higher than yours, yet I was still rejected without interview by CCOM, and most likely PCOM and DMUCOM (where I'm still on hold). I did not meet many interviewees with your MCAT score while at the places I interviewed earlier in the year. Many schools acknowledged that the later you applied the more selective they became. So if you don't get into RVUCOM, be prepared to apply early or definitely retake the MCAT.

If you can really refocus and do better on the MCAT, you could get into at least one D.O. or M.D. program.

If you do get into only RVUCOM, please read about it on the other threads, just so you are prepared for what may or may not be bias regarding its for-profit status upon your graduation. I am not taking a stance, but I don't want your excitement to blind you to what some might say is a real issue.

Good Luck!--I am a 2 year all-around rejectee (w/out interviews) from both D.O. and M.D. programs, who finally got in on my 3rd try, with 6 D.O. interviews and 8 M.D. interviews...so, don't lose hope!
