No interviews yet....anyone in the same boat?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Weren't you complete just recently? If so, no need to panic. I was complete in July (early) and waited until August for my first few invites. If that logic holds true, you should wait a month or two before panicing.

Late August/early September completion for most of my apps.

For some it's pushing 6 weeks and I haven't heard much of...anything. Even rejections would be nice. It's the interminable waiting and depressingly empty Inbox that gets to me.

Browsing the school specific forums just makes me all When Will It Be My Turns For Sex'y :<

You have good scores, don't worry. Keep your head up!

I've been complete since the first week of august for 30+ schools. My undergrad cGPA and sGPA is <3.4 and my mcat is a 31R (but a 7 in vr 🙁). I just finished an SMP and completed it with a 3.75 and I'm waiting. No interviews yet and a few rejections (like BU and UC Irvine) ....

I've got clinical exp, shadowing, and tons and tons of research as well as leadership activites, non-medical extracurrics etc...I'm tired of waiting

Last year I didn't get any II invite until late December. Hold on tight to your dream people 😀

Same boat; no interviews yet, complete in mid September, with most secondaries sent out at the end of September.

3.6 undergrad GPA, 37T MCAT, some graduate work, fairly weak clinical ECs

3.2 gpa, 33 mcat..
applied to 38 schools decided to send in 28 sec apps.
got rejected from uc sf and uc irvine. havent heard from uc davis, uc sd, and uc la drew...
i just read a thread about uc's not responding in one months basically means rejection. quite depressing, i live 20 min away from uc davis...

i haven't heard from any md schools yet, i have fair chance at DOs, but worried about clinical rotation.

i would really like to hear from schools, really!!

I feel ya. My high school is a street across of UC Irvine, live 15 mins away, and I worked in UCI's lab the past year and would love to go there, but not even a secondary from them

There is an SDN user (alwaysangel maybe?) who used dedicated to get into a UC after she was put on hold/no response or something. That might give you direction

Hey guys! Reading this thread gives me so much hope! I graduated from undergrad in 2009 and I have been working at pharmacies ever since. I couldnt apply because of personal reasons at the time but I finally am. 4.0 GPA and 34 MCAT from Aug of 2008. I have applied to 9 schools but havent heard anything. I am desperate for at least some kind of response! Everyone is telling me that I am bound to get into at least one school! Hope is all I have for now

Thought I'd throw in my $0.02 and perhaps cheer you up a wee bit. I waited just over 2 months before I got my II from UCSF. Even if it's been over a month, there is hope!

From reading over the pre allo forum, I can tell you this: I am DAMN glad I am already in medical school - it looks like there is significant MCAT and GPA creep going on these days (where a 3.6/32 a few years ago was sufficient, that bar seems to have risen a point or two, and I shudder to think what I would be up against today with anything less than, say, a 3.8/34).

Good luck to you and everybody. Not trying to be a downer, just telling it like it is.

Why are you spreading false information that will only discourage people on here for no reason? I am now not just addressing you, but anyone on this forum who believes what you have said and says the same sorts of things.

As of 2010 (this is from the AAMC website), the average MCAT score for matriculants is 31.1. Meaning not only are the numbers you gave far above the average, but they are unrealistic to suggest people have in order to apply to medical school.

People on this site lie and a lot of people here are numbers ******. Thousands of people every year get into medical school with 25's, 27's, 28's on the MCAT.

To the OP, I think you will be fine.

As for the statement of mine you highlighted, I was referring to my own personal situation, my state of residency, the schools I applied to, the schools where I interviewed, and where I ultimately was accepted, a top 20 medical school; I would NOT want to be going through the med school app process with anything less than a 3.8/34 given the trends I have seen with my own eyes at the stats of the people interviewing at my school.

The average matriculant MCAT score is misleading for many people for many reasons; for instance for California residents, or people who live in states with no public medical school, better not be counting on the avg national matriculant score.

Don't fall in love with that 31 average as some sort of "all clear," because it is comprised of plenty of people who are getting accepted at state schools with a 27. So unless you have a 31 and are applying to schools where matriculants have a 27, don't rely on the average matriculant score as assurance of anything. I did not have that kind of a state school option - I was applying almost entirely to OOS med schools, mostly private, on the east coast.

People are full of **** too. Keep that in mind. I've met people who "killed the MCAT" and ended up going to SGU.

How DARE you talk about Morsetlis like that!

(For those unaware, that referenced SDN poster "scored a 36T on the mcat"... and then ended up going to SGU.)

hehehe 😛

Thanks for clearing that up - I was confused as to the first part. Isn't it illegal to call out posters though? Or is that only in thread titles....

I don't know if he was actually referring to that guy or not... I just thought the sheer congruence was a funny coincidence so decided to run with it.

PS: I believe it is against SDN law to A) call out people in thread titles, B) make a thread about a particular poster - even without naming names in thread title, C) talk about member's actual identities in thread title and/or posts.

Gotcha - just looking out. Can't have you getting banned and all

lol, it wasn't anyone on these boards, as far as I know. We went to undergrad together way back in 2004.

Another 33/3.8 Cali resident. Complete at 25 schools between late August and early September. Rejection from BU and that's all I've heard so far. Just trying to keep my mind off things with my job and volunteering. It's kind of working . Tried going a week without checking my e-mail and it lasted three days, which was longer than I thought I would make it 🙂.

Dude...first of all. "3.9" is NOT "3.5-3.6". But I hear you.

I'm surprised you only have 1 secondary invite from CA schools. Which school?
When were you complete?

I see plenty of 3.9ers in this thread, the main similarity is our low-30s MCAT.

And I got invites from Davis and SD, except I decided not to apply to Davis because I didn't see myself going there, so why waste more money applying? Yeah, I know it seems kind of stupid to do without any acceptances in hand, but I just didn't feel like applying there. Still waiting for an invite from UCLA.

AMCAS complete around June 20-something. Luckily, I've had 2 OOS interviews so far and may hear back as early as in 10 days for one of them :xf:

You got invited to interview at Davis but you declined it?

This thread is a major mood-crusher. I especially find the threads of people "worrying" about "only" having interview invites from top schools or "only" a "few" interviews from certain schools off-putting. You guys are the ones who deserve to vent, the individuals who are in COMPLETE limbo, but realize this - worrying solves nothing. You can't control anything in this process aside from what you have done already (primary and secondaries).

If letting your troubles out in an anxiety filled thread helps you then by all means don't let me stop you. But reading through these responses made me feel absolutely inadequate with my numbers, I can't imagine what it feels like for the individuals in my shoes reading through this thread without any opportunities lined up.

It is out of your control at this point, roll with the punches. Be positive.

I believe that's what he's saying.

As for the notion that 2 applicants with a "lowish 30 MCAT" and a GPA of 3.5-3.6 vs 3.9 are anywhere near the same competitiveness is a little ridiculous. I know that a 32 does not blow the pants off any adcom, but it certainly does not hold you back. A 3.5-3.6 on the other hand, can definitely do so. I believe there are man applicants whose ONLY aspect of their application holding them back is their GPA, including myself.

Uh oh...what about the female applicants?😱

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I think he meant many. oops.😛

Going back to the post, you can offset a poor GPA with other things, such as strong ECs, good MCAT score, etc. i feel like there is a little dearth of strong ECs on sdn, imo. they might exist, but they're hiding...😕

I think he's saying that he got a secondary invitation from Davis

That's what I meant. I would never turn down an interview. I just didn't see myself going to that school and wouldn't be able to relay wanting to go to that school on the secondary.

And to the person saying that we can't do anything about our situations ... isn't that what SDN is for? That no matter what your situation is, you can find people to relate to on here?

I haven't gotten any interview invites and I only applied to 14 schools. Is it too late for me to apply to more schools? I have a 32/3.9

My secondaries were all turned in toward the end of August. I have yet to hear back from anywhere, except rejections from Pritzker and BU. Anyone else in a similar position? My stats are 3.8/35, but a 9 in verbal.

I'm very surprised at this. That's better than the average for accepted students at most schools...

It's a little higher than average, but I don't think its good enough for it to significantly stick out to admissions. It's about an average application. But I guess it's my extra curriculars that are lacking? Is there a way I can inform them all of the things I'm doing during this semester to have them reconsider my application? Maybe getting lower than a 10 in verbal is a big deal?

Gosh, I hope not! The average for accepted students is usually somewhere between 10 and 11, which must mean people score at or below 9 and get in (at least get interviews).

i haven't gotten an II yet either...

38Q, 3.5 sGPA (shouldn't have taken graduate school classes)
1.5 years clinical employment
6 years research, 4 pubs, 10+ abstracts/posters. 25 yrs old.

haven't heard from ucsf yet or ucla or ucsd

(CA resident, no troll, AMCAS wasn't complete until sept. 30 😱 )

applied to 20 schools

no II's for me either. 31L, 3.6 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA, I'd say pretty avg EC's (shadowing, research-no publications, volunteering). Applied to 17 schools originally (secondaries submitted around mid-late august), then added another school about two weeks ago cuz I was freaking out...a few small pools but that's it so far.

I have never killed any MCAT.

I have killed some cats, though.

🙂

Maybe this is a noobish question but are there particular days/weeks/times when schools send out secondaries? Does it depend

Seems like interview invites have been nonexistent this week, while schools offer acceptances.....

I applied to 20 schools and have been complete at most since July-August time frame.

I have had 1 interview, 3 rejections, and waiting for 16 more (3 of which will be rejections)

37R, 3.64 cGPA, 3.61 sGPA with a lot of good ECs (high positions in Student Government, President of non-profit, bench research (1 pub in process), currently work in clinical research, volunteering, etc.)

At least I'll be in really good shape when I enter medical school because its about the only thing I do besides work.

Could this just be one of those legendarily difficult application cycles?

Maybe everybody was reading SDN this time around.

As a late applicant, I'm joining this thread. Hopefully, we'll all be on to greener pastures soon! (And yes, I'm also part of the no Cali love group...no secondaries from UC Irvine or UCLA)

Actually, this week (the first week after October 15th) my number of interview invites tripled.

Sorry.

Sitting in lab...sitting in lab....staring at computer....waiting for emails to flood inbox with interview invites....emails never come........oh wait thanks alma mater for the customary interview but really don't want to go back there....sitting and waiting....sitting and waiting....two weeks later no response....sitting and waiting......all this because of the mcat...sitting and waiting...

It's been over a month since I've gotten any decisions, my Inbox is ronery.

I'm with you guys. I am a CA resident 3.77 GPA, 35S MCAT, good ECs but still working on the clinical side. I applied at 26 schools, got waitlisted at 2 and rejected at 1. I am learning that it is all just a waiting game. Hang in there.

Wow we're like twins. 3.8/35 with a 9 in verbal... also rejected from Pritzker and BU. All my secondaries were also in by end of Aug (earlier ones were marked complete by early Aug).

I was fortunate enough to hear back from 3 schools with II's though -- so hang in there! I think Pritzker and BU are known to be "brutal" in brushing off candidates early on. I've been hearing back really sparsely -- first II was Aug 29 (for a school I was complete Aug 2), and my third II was less than week ago (for a school I was complete Aug 8). Bahhh good luck guys. This app cycle is tough.

no interview invites yet.. pre-interview hold at Upstate
This empty mailbox is torture. Every time my phone dings from incoming mail, I go from excited to sigh... it was only Papa Johns giving me discounts.

must stay sane.

Same boat as you with this upstate thing. What's going on with the other suny's. 😡

been stalking this thread for a bit of hope. 3.9/34 with nothing but rejection after 2 months... i hate this.

Seems so strange that many, many people with above average statistics seem to be getting very little love this cycle.
