Graduated from Wake Forest University (BS Biology, Minor Chemistry)
GPA Science 3.21
GPA Total 3.33
DAT AA 20 PA 18 (which somehow was in the 94 percentile?)
Decent amount of dental experience (~ 100 hours)
Went abroad to Middle East for Dental Internship
Submitted application Mid August, but the applications seem to be received Mid september.

Applied to BU, Tufts, NYU, USC, MUSC, Maryland, Upenn, Columbia (haha...), Marquette, UT San antonio (OOS), UT Houston (OOS), Baylor, and UNC

Not one interview yet. All status's say Under review. I keep getting random update emails from USC and tufts that basically don't say anything other than "we will update you if an interview is requested."

Am I screwed?

Hmmmm.....that is a mystery as to why you do not have any interviews because your stats are decent and the dental internship is a huge plus. If you have strong letters of rec and at or above 19 on the rest of the DAT you will be golden. Mid august submit date is probably the hold up for you. By that time, dental schools already had stacks of apps 10 feet high. Also, unless you are a resident of Texas, your chances there are vastly slimmer there than at Tufts or UPenn (or any other private school for that matter). For instance, 2010 ADEA reports only 11 out of sate students (out of 280 or about 4%) enrolled in Baylor, SA, and Houston combined!

I think that's why, you submitted late and you don't have super stats, i would say wait another month

did you by any chance take some pre-req classes at a CC? (like during summer) b/c BU and tufts won't take any.. plus they don't just reject you, they wait until next July to send you a rejection letter.. with those stats, i feel like you should've gotten a response from them..

I have similar stats and have received 4 interviews, but they were all southwest. Out of all the schools we have in common, USC is the only one that I have heard back from. I wouldn't worry yet, just wait it out.

You haven't been rejected from anywhere, so that it definitely a good thing...good luck!

I have a very similar stat as you ( exact same DAT, little higher GPA) as well and I have not heard anything from Boston, Tuft or USC !! However, I got an interview from one school which I am very very thankful for ( I think it is the only thing that is keeping me sane these day).

I know the wait is hard and sometimes unbearable. However, hang in there and hopefully some good news will come soon.

Unfortunately, very little chance at the texas schools (as an OOS applicant), but at least it didn't cost much to apply there!

Maybe not all pre-december, but you'll get interviews. Keep your spirits up and your mind sharp.

I don't have any interviews yet either and I am FREAKING OUT! My stats are AA 19 TS 19 PA 24 with a 3.4 GPA and 3.3 Science. I applied about a month earlier than you. I have ~300+ dental hours. I applied to all of the big schools plus some smaller ones but all I have are a few rejections so far. I wish I could get one interview so I don't go crazy! Good Luck!

Yeah I believe your school selection is a factor as well. In addition to the Texas schools, MUSC is hard to get into out of state (what is your state residency? If it is NC, why not ECU?), and I believe Marquette has already finished all their interview requests. UNC has one more interview date left in january, but all you can really do now is wait it out. Good luck.

You have good stats, theres so many factors as to why you haven't gotten an interview yet. make sure if you don't get in ask the admissions what can you do to make your application better.

I legitimately laughed out loud at the texas schools being grateful for my donations. Unfortunately, I had no dental advisor and didn't know anyone who was going to dental school (downfall of going to a small school like Wake Forest), so I wasted a lot of money on out of state applications. I am a georgia resident but I did not apply to MCG because I really could not live in Augusta, GA.

It seems like I won't be getting any interviews before that first acceptance date of December 1st. Does anyone know if Columbia, Tufts, Upenn, BU, or USC fill most of their classes by December 1? Where can I find this information?

Thanks everyone for your responses.

No. I took psychology at UGA, but thats it. Good to know though. How are people supposed to know that?

You didn't apply to MCG because you couldn't live in Augusta? What's the reason behind that? You are a Georgia resident and they only interview GA residents.

Think of it as a boot camp/prison sentence. At the end of the 4 years you will be able to move on.

I agree with this post as well. You should have looked more carefully into your choice of schools.

In addition to the texas schools (donation is the correct terminology here I think), for Upenn and Columbia, you need high DAT scores. For Maryland, your GPA is below average. But it's good that you applied to private schools like NYU and Tufts, BU, etc.

Well you haven't received any rejections yet. So don't give up hope.

What were you thinking? MCG is by far your best bet at getting a chair! Yeah, living in Discusta for four years is a real drag but its a small price to pay for getting your DDS. Plus, you can always drive up to Athens or Greenville or down to Savannah for the weekend a get outta Dodge.

Did you read this thread?

I am not too sure about these private schools and the stats that they post 🙂

Few of my friends who applied have stats that are above the admitted class for last year but none of then have gotten interview from these schools while they got interview from some other state schools or schools with much higher GPA/DAT average.

I think there is alot of luck involved with those private schools because of the high number of applicants that they get.

i have pretty similar stats to you as well man and i havnt heard back from anyone either
(3.26c and 3.1s with 20/20/21 dat)

i applied in mid july to around 20 schools including most of the ones you applied to
i havnt really heard anything except a rejection from llu and colorodo

but one big difference is that i AM a texas resident, and applied to the schools
do you guys think i have a shot at the texas schools? or any other schools for that matter? i dont know if i should start looking into that loop year

Biggest mistake that you could have made was not applying to your state school. Kills me.

You are probably right about that. If I could go back and apply I would. I am not sure that I would go, even if it was the only place I got in, which is why I did not originally apply. I think I would rather reapply and take that year to strengthen my application. Who knows...

Not much I can do about that now though. Just going to keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the advice everyone.

What would be so wrong with your state school? you live in that state already, it prob has cheap tuition...

???

i applied in state in texas, but still havnt heard anything so iono....

What's the point in applying somewhere that you wouldn't go? Still don't understand the logic of WHY you wouldn't go, but to each is their own. Good luck to you.
